2006 antenna wire problem
2006 antenna wire problem
Have a 2006 1800 that I wanted to change the air filter on. During the disassembly I found that I could not get the antenna wire to unplug from the back of the radio. It looks like it should just unplug, I could not see anything to release it and finally gave up and put things back together. We are leaving on a 10 day trip and I did not want to damage the plug or the cord and be without a radio on the trip. Every video etc. just says to stick your arm in and unplug it. Is there a retainer of some king on the radio that I am not noticing. Thank you in advance for any solutions.

It *will* unplug; it may take a slight amount of pressure to get it to begin to move.
It is a smaller variant of this:
Good luck.

There are no retaining clips or locking pins. It may be just slightly corroded/oxidized in place. It will pull straight out.GWING14 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 02, 2021 10:06 pm Have a 2006 1800 that I wanted to change the air filter on. Re: 2006 antenna wire problem
if your time limit to your trip is short, I would forget changing the air filter now.
But, that radio connector needs some strong fingers to twist and pull it out.
the Honda maintenance chart for changing the air filter is twice too often at a minimum.
mine had 57,000 miles on it, and it was still fairly clean... it had a light coating of dirt on it, but if held up to sunlight, you could see thru it.

Thanks for the input. I assume there must be some corrosion or something making it stick. I may have to try some more aggressive tactics when I get home. It was just very frustrating to be that close to done and hit a road block. She is back together, cleaned up and ready to hit the road.

Re: 2006 antenna wire problem
The red circled part that is slightly bent out is what holds the plug into the hole. Try gently twisting a little bit with some pliers to break loose and should be able to pull out.

Re: 2006 antenna wire problem
On my 2005 it is on the Seat side of the radio. I seem to always forget to push it back in every time I reassemble. Anyway, spray some electric lube into it and push it in before pulling it out. Back and forth motion usually releases such items.
It ain't the destination but the getting there. You are not lost until you run out of gas.
