Goldwing misfire

Post by Flapp1 »

I have a 2002 goldwing and it has what seems like a misfire. I found the #3 cylinder plug black and sooty. I installed new plugs and later found the same problem. Now after riding a few hundred miles and checking the plugs, #3 was clean and #4 is black and sooty. Does anyone have any idea what’s going on?

Thanks, Bob

You may have a coil going bad. The same coil that fires #3 also fires #4.

I replaced the coils with a known working set, that was before it had switched cylinders. Do you think it may be a wiring issue going to the coils?

Thanks, Bob

Why didn't you mention that before? What else have you done? You need to go back and check your work.

If it has the factory plug wires on it, you need to replace all of them with new. The age alone is enough to make them go bad.
