What to watch out for?

I'm looking at a 2005 GL1800 that has been sitting on the dealership floor since 11/2018.

What kind of concerns should I be on the lookout for other than tire age? Tires were made in June of 20212...

Currently own a 1986 GL1200 but am thinking about upgrading.. Any advise will be appreciated.

I would ask how long has the gas been sitting in it, worried that it would be bad and cause problems. Unless they have been riding it fairly often.

Thanks for the reply, I have not purchased the bike yet. Still trying to do the research to see what kind of problems could arise by just having the bike sit for so long. I doubt they have been riding it since it has a nice layer of dust on it and the battery is dead. You cant even see how many miles are on it when you turn the key.

There must be a reason why it has been there for that long of a time. Is the title clean? You can a vehicle report on it and see if it has been in an accident. If you get a good deal on it I would make the dealer change all the fluids, and air filter and check the valves. Also it would have to have a new battery, Check to see if all the buttons/switches work without sticking, a common problem with the Gold Wings, all years. The dealer cam pull up all the recalls and service bulletins on it and see if they were all completed.. How much are they asking for it?

I know this bike has a "Rear Brake Recall" that still needs to be done, and I was thinking about making the dealer change all fluids, new battery, spark plugs etc. so thanks for re-affirming those concerns. They are asking $8,995... I'm not prepared to offer that much.

My '05, which is well maintained and now has 30,400 miles on the odometer, has been absolutely trouble free.

I did change the Dunlop E3 to the E4 tires recently, but only because of their 5 year age. I travel only about 5,000 miles per year. Tire age, and not just tire accumulated mileage, is critical.

Maintenance of any bike is everything, and especially on a Wing. The motor needs frequent oil changes, and with the proper oil. I use Honda (Dino) oil, and change every 4,000 miles. I know, there are oil officiados out there who will mention better oils. I prefer Honda. It's just a personal preference with motor oils, but NOT a personal preference on the correct weight of oil in a Wing motor. Use the correct oil, and use the correct (80w-90w) Honda gear oil for that rear hub as well.

If buying any '05, I'd suggest changing all fluids TWICE the normal frequency for at least the first 10,000 miles, just to ensure the previous owner had truly changed the fluids at all. I love my '05, and it's nice to see that "Anniversary" badge that accompanies the '05 models.

you didn't get that one but you get another one? You might want to look around even in other states near you. Back in 03 I bought an 02 and flew from So Calif to Portland Oregon to pick it up and had a nice ride home.

I also know of TWO 2010 Yellow GL1800's, located in Idaho.
I know one has 18,000 on it and some accessories. The owner hasn't set a price yet.
NAPA says about $10,000 to 12,500 for private sale.
