Vented windshield

Post by Bluedude54 »

I have a 2010 GL1800. Has anyone put a "screen" over the windshield vent to keep the bugs from flying thru? If so, what type of screen did you use and how did you install it.

Because I have never liked the vented windshield, I replaced my windshields with a non-vented windshield.

I have never done this myself, however I have heard of riders using a piece of nylon stocking to act as a screen.

I have never had a bug fly through the vented windshield. However, back in the 1990s, I did have a vented windshield that formed cracks on the windshield at the vent. It was a Tulsa Windshield and the owner of the company says send it back in the box he sent me a new windshield. Great Customer Service. I now have a vented F4 smoke Windscreen. On my stock vented windscreen I had purchased and mounted a GPS attachment to the vent and because of the vibrations, I took it off and made a simple dash mount. If I knew how to add a picture I would.

Same here, never really had a bug get through the vent, but I'll bet a cicada at 70 mph could make a mess?

I have had that happen a couple times. They do make a yellow mess. Gotta get em off as quick as can be cause they get real sticky as they dry on. However, I have never had one come through, only turn inside out and put some of those insides through.

I call it the bug shredder ! I think any screen or mesh would be more trouble than its worth.
I wouldn't want a solid screen - I'm constantly adjusting the vent for temperature and to relieve back pressure.

Put a cicada or grasshopper on the end of a fishing hook and catch trout. We did this all the time.
