Re: Tire Choice
Welcome to the forum.
The Bridgestone G704/G709 combination is the other popular tire set. Similar fanbase as the E4. To be honest, 15,000 or any toroid tire is pretty good.

Re: Tire Choice
I bought a 2008 and put E4's on them because they seemed to hold up well (about 8,000 miles on them at the point that I was going on a 3,000 mile trip last fall, so I decided to replace them "just in case." Couldn't find the rear E4 at that moment and ran out of time, so I tried the Dunlop 704/709 combination. So far, so good with about 5,000 miles on them and they look good.
The installers put 42/42 psi in f/r and the bike tracked rain grooves very distinctly and all of the interstate in GA is grooved. I lowered the pressures to the 36/41 spec (as from the factory) and the tracking stopped. Time will tell. This set was also about $100/less than the E4's. Good luck.

I now have two 3000 mile trips 2-up pulling camper on my rear E4, haven't measured with a gauge but I'd say after 13,000 miles I still have half the tread left, plenty for yet another trip with the camper.

Re: Tire Choice
Of the limited tires I have tried, I have never felt ripped off by any of them. They do have different qualities that I can 'feel' but for the most part they are all round.
Dumbflop - Handling at low speed was, umm, meh. At highway speed was ok. tire wear was excellent. medium priced. In the dry was OK. in the rain----My calibrated cheeks said it gave up road in a corner!
Muttslers - Low speed handling is great. highway is awesome. They stick in the dry. They stick in the wet. tire wear was very good. Very $$$$$.
Stinkoos - Low speed handling is poor. Traction was, umm, meh. tire wear was good. very cheap to purchase. Highway -poor- in a crack it shook badly and didn't know which way to go.!
flintstones - Low speed is excellent. Highway is excellent. They stick in the dry. They stick in the wet. Very reasonable priced. But, wow , they sure wear out fast.
The last 4 or 5 tires I have bought have been stones, but my hope is the boarders will be open for next summer witch would end itself to a longer trip, so I have a new set of muttslers on my shelf ready to go. I am being optimistic
The only one I never repurchased was the stinko due to poor handling characteristics. To be clear, I would never fault anyone for buying this tire as it is still good value its just that I wanted better handling qualities.

Re: Tire Choice
I change tires nearly every year -
I have tried them all (except Metzelers and Shinko - but I have buddy's experience to share )
I ALWAYS change front & rear as a set - both at the same time - I never wear out a front - the rear decides when I change
Most often - Bridgestine 704/709 combo - They do everything well except deliver more miles - I typically get between 8500 and 10,000 miles on a set - Most affordable
Most Impressive - Avon Cobra - delivered great stickiness rain or shine - lasted about 16,000 miles except cupped at around 12K (I have since upgraded my suspension)
Most wear - Dunlops E4s - I am happy with these tires as well - not cheap but last and last and last - Good in rain , sun , hot cold -
Most azz-cramping - Shinkos - My friend ran a set of these and found them to be quite slippery - took them off at 4500 miles and trashed them
Most likely to crack or blister - Metezlers have a history of this issue on many bikes - some have reported good experience - I don't trust them
Most Wondering about - Michelin Commander III - I had a aset of Commander II's on my Suzuki GS850 and really like them - I now have E4s on that bike -
But the Commander III is made for the heavy cruiser crowd (V-twins) and they do not make a set for the Goldwing (although there is a size that is correct) - Bias Ply Tire so not Radial like the Wing prefers
Darkside (car tire rear) - I tried it for 30,000 miles - It works - but I didn't like the way it felt or handled - so my experience was less favorable than some.
