2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
Hello fellow Goldwing fans.
I'm rebuilding a 2013 F6B with 8,500 miles and have a couple of fastener questions as this has been a months long project.
First, on the rh side just forward of the rear brake lever. I did my best to capture all fasteners but apparently failed on a couple
Can you advise what bolt is installed at the circled position and if anything else is secured here as I tried to remove the engine intact whenever possible.
And second, I have an "extra" bolt as shown in the photo. The bolt is 9 mm long and 1 mm did with a 17 mm head.
I don't want to move forward without addressing this. There are bolts this size used in the rear shock and suspension but all of these are in place.
This is a sizable bolt obviously and I swear it was part of the disassembly.
Many thanks to the team, I look forward to returning the favor.
Be safe and God Bless.
Brian

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
There are 2 sets of 6 bolts that hang the engine from the frame ... 3 for the right, and 3 for the left. On the left, and because of the "set screw spacer" that pushes the engine into the right-side of the frame, the left bolts are longer ones.
The 2 up top and centered have a smaller diameter ... the longer one goes on the left. The 2 larger diameter ones with a center hole in them go in the most forward position with the longer one on the left. The ones without a center hole go at the lower frame stub. If you need measurements, go here.
https://www.mrcycles.com/oemparts/a/hon ... f436/frame
Also, be sure to torque the engine into position per the Service Manual. However, the Service Manual does not say when to remove the jack so that the mufflers lineup correctly, and that the ECM stay is not stressed. Here is what I do, once the engine is hanging in the frame by 2 center bolts and the 2 front frame stub bolts, release the jack that supports the engine and follow Honda torque sequence from there.
The 3 bolts on each side that holds the left and right beams on, I torque to 30 ft/lbs.

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
Thank you Greg,
I appreciate your help and apologize if I'm bugging you.
I know I have the three ref on the left side which I believe are item numbers 14 (under drivers left foot support), 21, and 23.
On the R/H side I have 22, and 24 installed and torqued per manual as suggested. I believe I'm missing item 15 bolt which goes under the driver's Right side foot pad. This bolt is much smaller. I still cannot account for the bolt as shown holding in hand. I felt I did well at tracking and identifying but these two have escaped me.
As far as the torque on the spacer side do I need to purchase the Honda tool to torque the "castellated" lock nuts or can I torque the bolt and use a punch and hammer to tighten the lock nuts?

I thought the circled bolt hole in your picture looked small too. Is this a USA Wing ??? Did someone do a mod, or is the beam (part #4) been changed ??? How big is the bolt hole in the case there ??? Part #24 in the fishe below is the same bolt that all GW use from 2001-17 (see 2nd fishe) and click on the "where used" link.

As for having the proper tools to secure the lock nuts. Here we have those tools and always use them. However, sometimes we do transmission repair after a Honda shop did one prior, and the person who did the prior one had used the method to tighten the lock nuts as you have described.

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
This is helpful, thank you again. I heard they moved the manufacturing back to Japan but not sure what S/N was affected and not sure where mine was built as I'm not the original owner. I do know that there were no modifications as its all original. The hole measures around 13 mm. and the 10x62 Calle out in my manual is too large dia.
I'll check out the 12x84 as suggested but curious why my manual doesn't show it...
When I disassembled I kept the engine as complete as possible and really don't recall removing this bolt.
I think my larger concern is the "extra" bolt as I don't want to get too far and have to disassemble, or Heaven forbid I put it on the road missing a bolt this size.
Thanks again for the tip on the tool, I'll see if I can get one from my local dealer. I did use the hammer and punch method for disassembly.
Thanks for your feedback, have a great weekend.

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
If you bought your Wing new in the USA, that means that its a USA Wing. What I mean by that is that it was made in Japan intended to be sold for the US market. It also means that your F6b should be like all the other F6b's that get their engine pulled in my shop.
On Mon, when I get to my shop, and if I can remember, I'll take pictures with measurments of what that bolt should looks like. To me the one in your hand should be correct. The only question is if it has a center hole.
Actually, before I do that, can you supply a better picture of the hole ??? Could a collar have been installed in the hole ???

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
Hi Greg,
I'm the second owner but can confirm it was bought locally in the US.
I'm familiar with the frame/ engine attach bolts as mentioned. The one on the front (item #22) from the manual does have a hole in the center of the head and its the same size head as the one pictured in my hand. Both bolt heads are size 17mm socket but the one pictured in hand does not have a hole in the center.
It has similar markings as the one located ref item 15 in the manual (opposite item 14)
These are the only bolts securing the engine on the R/H side besides item 24.
I would add the manual I looked at identified this bolt as a 10x62 which is too large (dia).
I'd like to pick your brain if you don't mind sharing your contact information Greg.
Here's a close up of the frame hole in question that secures the aft end of the engine support bracket as requested. I've not had luck adding pics to private messages. I can email it or add it to the forum question if you prefer.
Thank you so much for your help. Where is your shop located? I'm in Tulsa and the Honda dealership here doesn't have anyone with your experience. They said they've not pulled an engine..

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
Whatever that is in the hole, should not be there. Once it's removed, I'm sure that you will find that your bolt fits correctly.
Below is a picture of part #24 in the fishe. It is 84mm long, has a 17mm head, and has no hole in the center. Attached is a picture of a 2013 F6b that is currently in my shop. I just got done installing the motor, and since the bolt in question is the first bolt to torque when installing a motor, I'll not remove it. But as you can see, it has a 17mm head. Whatever is blocking your hole needs removed.

Hi Greg,
You have been most helpful and greatly appreciated...I laugh now when I realize my two issues (extra bolt, and location where bolt was needed..) were one in the same. Sorry for the delay as I was traveling for work and just got back to the project. The sleeve bushing was actually an inverted hat bushing so it was captured. I drilled it out and you are correct, the bolt fits. I've not installed as yet as I wanted to loosen all remaining bolts to ensure this one installs correctly and will retorque per instructions.
Thank you again for your help.
Merry Christmas!!
Brian

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
I would advise doing the same. Loosen the engine enough to remove the collar that does not belong there. That probably means removing the right beam. Once that collar is out, remount the right beam and retorque per Honda's instructions.
That then leaves this question. Where did the collar come from ??? My guess says that you're missing a seat collar. It's part #2 in the fishe below. If that one is not missing, then maybe it a collar missing from an aftermarket windscreen ???

Re: 2013 GL1800 F6B fastener questions
It took some finagling since the bike is mostly built with the exception of the dash and front end but I was able to get the collar pulled, everything aligned, and bolt installed.
I was so happy that the one finding took care of both issues.
Thank you again!!!
Enjoy a blessed Christmas and prosperous New Year.
