Kuryakyn # 8990 Driver Backrest for GL1800

I would like to know if anyone has lowered the height of this backrest ? I wanted to remove about 3 inches of the vertical straight tube coming from the adjustable lock mount. It seems as though it is too high up with my Mustang seat. I was thinking of removing about 3 inches and placing a metal rod inside to connect the two sections. Anyone have any other ideas or suggestions ?
Thanks in advance,

While I have not done it myself, I am sure there is a way.

Your Mustang is probably setup for their rider backrest. Mustang should have a display at Daytona Bike week. Might be worth visiting them and trying their brand backrest.

I have the driver backrest for the Mustang. It came with the seat. It is where a normal backrest would be. However, I feel it should be higher up and the Kuryakyn should be lower. What can I say ? LOL
If the seat was higher and thicker, then the Kuryakyn might be okay for me.

thanks,
