Broken Kuryakyn Armrest

Post by Gerry63 »

Kuryakyn Armrest w/ Drink Holder GL1800
The right side armrest stop has broken now it swings in to the seat and swings out to hit the trunk. I loosened it and small plastic pieces fell out. I contacted Kuryakyn but I find they don't sell replacement parts and will not sell just the right side a full set is over $300.
Anyone have any suggestions? This must be only a $0.50 cent part.

3D print some new ones? Or make from solid plastic?
Take the good side apart to get all the dimensions.
Or find a pillion with only one arm?

This is a update on the armrest.
After pulling off both sides I find it's a roll pin that broke in many pieces the arms show know sign of damage making it a head scratchier on what broke it. I'm on the road so tooling is limited I tried to drill it out but cheep drill bits wouldn't cut it. Monday I'll try to find a machine shop.
Thanks again for the suggestions.

no need to scratch your head. kuryakyn is known to resale cheap stuff. golden rule is to not pay a kabillion dollars on bling or farkles.

My wing came with those and they flopped, too. I replaced the nylon washers (top and bottom) with washers from ACE Hardware and tightened them up. Helped some, but wife didn't like them anyway. Gone!

I got it fixed. They use was a 3/16 X 3/4 roll pin ( split pin ) it had broken off flush as it is a very hard spring steel drilling was out! But we used a screw dry wall screw, you know the black ones. Just screwed it in tight (snug) then with side cutters pried out the screw and out came then roll pin remains. I replaced the other just grabbed it with the side cutters and it pried out easily. Tractor supply had them for 35 cents each.

Too bad you didn't take pictures but maybe this should be added in the How-To section anyway. I'm sure yours isn't the only set that broke.

Roll pins into a blind hole is shoddy engineering.
