turning radius on a trike

Post by 47chief »

Hello all, I recently purchased a 2008 GL1800 HPN with a Roadsmith trike conversion. I noticed that I can turn the front wheel further to the right than I can to the left. The left turn radius is wider by far. It feels as its hitting stop to stop but ????
Thanks and ride safe.

You have to look and see what is hitting. Not likely but the turn signal self cancel unit is in the steering stem and could be damaged blocking rotation, too.

Does your trike have handlebar risers? Possibly could be an isuue where the routing of the hoses from the clutch brake and throttles interfering with the handlebars?

You must be hitting something, I just installed a rake kit on my sisters 03 and it turned equally on both sides.
It's not what you buy, it's what you build.

Ok Gents, here's what I found: There is HID headlights installed (along with a ton of extras) a small black electrical box was zip tied to a cross member and rotated down, vibration ? wire comes from back of headlight up to the box , and caused the short turn. Moved back into position and viola!!

I am always super careful when running wiring or adding accessories anywhere up in and around the fairing, to ensure steering is not affected. Also consider that the suspension can compress to allow the wheel almost all the way up into the fairing, so steering needs to still be clear at that point.

I have a camera mounted on the bottom of my fairing, and it took a lot of experimentation and testing to make sure it did not interfere with the movement of the front wheel under full compression.
