GL1800A - Indicators all staying on

Post by Roach »

Hi all,
have searched (to best of my ability), the forum for help on 2003/2004 indicators staying on. They will not cancel and all four stay on without blinking. Checked bulbs, fuses and all appears ok. When the hazard switch is used, all work fine. I am not a sparky and the only thing I can think of, is that I have pinched a wire somewhere when putting the faring back on after troubleshooting locked front rotors – anther story which led to a blocked hose and rebuilding the master cylinders and replacing the fork oil whilst I was there!

Cheers KB

Welcome to the forum.

Yes, most likely something happened during the most recent maintenance action. Sorry to say but you likely will need to start retracing those steps.

Be sure there are no pinched wires under the cover that attaches to the underside of the handlebar.

Front brake lever/handle, there is a micro switch up there that seems to get hung up(#1 in diagram), I had the same problem when I recently picked up our 2004 GL1800. All brake lights on, very dim turn signal on all lights. Push back on the brake handle, spray with contact cleaner, if not, the replacement switch off the Honda site isn’t that expensive. Hopefully your issue is as simple to fix as mine was, I wasn’t too keen on trying to track down a pinched wire…somewhere

You may have a pinched wire in the right side trunk hinge harness. If the pink/white wire gets power on it from another wire in the harness it will turn all the lights on. The pink/white wire is the only wire in the system that can turn them all on. A shorted bulb is a possibility, but if that were the case it would only light up one side, not both.

Thanks WildWally, juyst cleaned the contacts and no change. Perhaps a repalcement switch is not a bad idea. Cheers KB

Thanks, workiny my way through where there may be a bad earth - not a sparky, so takes me a bit longer. Checking front loom now for the earth (see below) and also found this link which might help others: https://electricalconnection.com/index. ... s-grounds/

Yes, the bad ground that EC is referring to is one that will cause all sorts of issues with the rear lighting. Mostly evident when the brake lights are activated. If you remove the tail light fuse, it will remove this ground as a possibility when the brakes are not activated.
