Hello All,
First Post. Having an oil leak. Just came out of the shop for a transmission issue that was fixed. 2003 GL1800 ABS with 53,000 miles. My dad and I got it up on the stand where we were preparing to do a front timing chain cover which I was told was the source of the leak by the mechanic who fixed the transmission. After getting it on the stand we pulled some plastic and saw that the oil was originating from a small machined hole by the oil filter. We are stumped as to what it is and what it's purpose is. If anyone can assist it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Wes

Re: Hole Above Oil Filter
Your picture is of no help. However, there should be a threaded hole for an oil pressure sending (OPS)unit to screw into above the oil filter. If there is no OPS threaded into it and when running, a lot of oil will squirt/flow out of it.

Can’t tell from pic but is that the clutch slave cylinder? Does it have a weep hole? It could leak oil or hydraulic (dot4) fluid.

Re: Hole Above Oil Filter
Welcome to the board. That’s the clutch slave cylinder weep hole. You can get a hydraulic leak from the slave piston seal or you can get a lifter rod oil seal leak from that hole. You will need to pull the clutch slave cylinder assembly away from the block to check the lifter rod seal(oil) and the slave piston seal(hydraulic clutch fluid). You can pull it away without disconnecting the hydraulic hose from it to keep the system sealed. You don’t have to drain the oil and you remove the vapor canister to get to its bolts. After that, you just remove the three bolts around the hydraulic hose that holds the slave assembly in the transmission cover and pull it out.BigBoy@1994 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 03, 2022 2:36 pm Hello All,

Sorry it's not a better picture. This machined hole is located near the oil filter on what appears to be a seam on the front of the engine case.

Memebers have offered possible answers, but as most have said, for better help a better picture is needed.

Maybe we can approach this from the other direction. Here is a pic of what we are talking about so you can match it up to what you have. Circled in red is the weep hole mentioned, and circled in yellow is the seal that needs replacing to stop the oil leak.
Also I would rebuild or replace the clutch slave, since it will have been contaminated with oil, while you have it all apart. Especially if you see anything like the debris shown in this pic.
