installing bluetooth

I'm trying to install Bluetooth on my Goldwing. I purchased an adapter and plugged it in to the correct plug. I have a red and black line and I'm not sure where to connect them. There were no directions. I tried to connect them to the power outlet and it blew the fuse. I replaced the fuse and the power outlet still won't work. Help please

Who manufactures and sells the Bluetooth adapter that you installed? Does it come with the appropriate plugs to plug it into your Gold Wings system? You say there are no instructions; can't you contact the manufacturer or get info online ab out the adapter? Without more information, it is really hard to try and make any suggestions on how to help.

I just completed this on my 06 Goldwing. It is relatively simple. I purchased the bluetooth device, (chinese made) for $15, ebay or amazon both have them. It comes with a three wire plug that you can plug into your auxillary plug underneath the left fairing pocket. I tested the device initially and had an issue with the bluetooth sending the data through the auxillary line into the stereo, but after making a solid connection in the plug I solved the problem. I tapped power on the cigarette plug that was installed in the faring pocket, just make sure you have the positive and negative correct. Black wire to ground, red or red and black wire to red or hot positive power. One issue I had was engine noise. Intially I thought this was going to be a problem, but I. turned the volume up on my iphone which eliminated the engine noise and provided more sound from the speakers when desired. Works well.

I figured out the problem. It blew out the fuse in the fuse box and I didn't realize it until I trace it all the back. And I also wired it backwards.

So what Bluetooth adapter did you go with?
What does it do for you; tunes, phone, navigation, headset communication? Do you just use it to listen to audio from a phone or tablet or does it do more?

The adapter was an inexpensive one from China. I got it off of Amazon (same one on eBay) for about $13. The main reason I purchased it was to finally eliminate the cord from my bike to my helmet. I also purchased an inexpensive Bluetooth Headset (BT-S2 Intercom Headset $30). I now do everything I did with the corded system (music, navigation), but now I can also use my phone with the headset. I started with inexpensive equipment to make sure it worked and to see whether I like it. I may upgrade later.

Excellent. Thanks for that. I'd been thinking of Bluetooth for phone to headset communication for when the phones no longer have a phone jack in them.

I see that the Bluetooth receiver is supposedly plug and play and the audio connector is already on the unit. All that needs to be done is connecting power. When you plugged it in and it did not work was it due to connecting the power wires incorrectly or because the audio connector was wired incorrectly?

If I understand this correctly, the function of this Bluetooth device is to send audio to your Aux Audio input on the bike. It is a one way device. Using the Bluetooth headset gives you two way communication to other Bluetooth headsets but not the motorcycle system right?

Correct, this unit, like the one EC sells only allows you to stream your outgoing audio from a phone to the bike’s aux input. The helmet unit will not be able to use it for intercom.

I stand corrected. it is only one way..
I also realized that I don't really need to Bluetooth the bike itself. In learning to use the BT-S2 headset I found I can do everything through my phone and go directly to the headset. I don't even turn on the bike radio at all, as I have XM radio on my phone, and the headset will receive FM radio as well.
I'm still learning

This is what I use on my 1100. Simple, cheap, works. Internal battery or USB powered. I'll plug it into my garage amp when wrenching.

I just use my PackTalk, never liked the wired look. Not cheap, works great. NFI.

High quality product - easy install and easy to use. While you're in the left fairing pocket, install their "direct connect" 12V power plug assembly (# 02205). Cigarette lighter type 12V connector. Connects to the 12V plug found bundled with the "AUX" plug. I installed one today on my bike - 30 minute job.

FYI - plugs under the left fairing pocket. The "AUX" plug is white and feeds the AUX audio input on the radio. The 12 volt power plug is red and is hot only when the key is turned on.

Not the OP, but the only reason a GLI may be needed is if you are considering adding a second item (radar detector, external GPS, etc.) to the system.
