Does anyone know what size grips for a 2005 GL1800 I've been told 1" and also told 7/8"

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
Are you referring to the pipe size the grip slides onto ???

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
I beleive the grips are different from 2001-05 and 2006-17. The differance is the pipe's diameter that they slide over. I have both year grips in stock, and if I remember will measure their bore tomarrow when I go back to my shop and post the results here.

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
I do not know about other years but my '98 and my '17 both have 7/8" handlebar outer diameters at the grip attaching points.

I always thought 1" grips were just a Harley thing? Every Honda I have ever owned had 7/8" (22mm)

Here is how new ones, that I have in stock were measured, and their application, as listed by Honda's parts fishe.GoldWingrGreg wrote: ↑Sun Jun 04, 2023 4:11 pm I beleive the grips are different from 2001-05 and 2006-17. 53165-MCA-000 7/8" LEFT GRIP
2001-08 WING
As one can see, the left pipe can either be 3/4" or 7/8. I've tried making sense of part #53165, and what level took what, and am not able too make sense of it. I can say that last month we had a 2004 Wing in for repair (non-abs), he wanted new grips, and I was surprised to find out the left grip's pipe was fatter. Fortunately, I had all 3 part #'s above in stock, and #s 53166 and 53165 were installed.
I'm still trying to make sense of the diffent size pipes on the left side, and can't. In 2004, at least here in the USA, a new Wing owner made 2 choices when he purchased his Wing ... color and non or with ABS. The left grip being either 3/4 or 7/8" does not appear to have anything to do with either. So basically it boiles down to this. To know what size the left grip pipe is, on a 2001-08 Wing, one will have to measure the pipe. To measure the pipe, either remove the grip, or the left switch assy., or the clutch m/c.
If the Wing or F6b was equiped with heated grips, all appear to have come with 3/4" pipes.

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
Is it a case of heated vs non heated, or are both kinds available in both sizes?

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
I might be wrong but I think a 3/4" grip is perfect for a 7/8" bar. If the metal bar and rubber grip are the same OD and ID, the grip would have to be glued on.
The only grips I have ever seen that were glued on were after market grips.

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
My favorite has always been hair spray. Grips slide right on then don't move once dry. Yet can still be removed without damage, with a little compressed air.

I have 3/4" pipe and was looking for aftermarket chrome and rubber grips...but I don't think that's going to happen

Re: 2005 GL1800 grip size
All the aftermarket ones that I've seen fit over OEM grips. I beleive that the only exception to that are Hondaline chrome grips.
