Re: Indicators
You have a bad connection in the 14 pin gray connector under the seat to the rear of the relay bank. It’s the green wire that is the ground for the rear lighting. Bypassing the connector with a soldered in jumper is the only permanent fix for it. There’s also a 12 pin connector, that’s not the correct one that will cause this issue.Daleboy wrote: ↑Wed Jun 07, 2023 10:23 am Hi I have a gl1800 2002 this morning I put the indicator on to turn right and both indicators came on I turned on the left indicator same thing happened when I put hazards on they flash once and then goes off everything else works any information be great thanks dale uk

Re: Indicators
Ok, if you have the correct connector and the jumper didn’t fix it, that means the ground wire has broken between G1 under the gas tank and the connector. Double check the pin count on that connector. If it’s the 14 pin, then you will have to either pull the gas tank and run a new wire to G1 from the connector or leave the gas tank in place and run a new wire from the connector over to the right side of the rear engine mount and attach it to the grounding plate where the battery is grounded. This is at the area where the reverse actuator cables are attached to the reverse mechanism. Before doing either, try a temporary jumper from your new jumper to the battery negative post and test the lights again.

Re: Indicators
Pull the right side engine cover off, it’s the one above the driver foot peg. The plate will be at the top left/rear of the opening. You will see the large battery ground cable bolted to it. The clicking should be the brake light relay. Make sure your battery is fully charged, it doesn’t take long to drain it with the key on and the engine not running.

Re: Indicators
Ok, so did the new ground fix the indicators or change their brightness? Do you have any extra wiring connected to the rear or front turn signals? Look at my earlier picture and find the little box in the picture labeled turn signal diode. Unplug it and try the turn signals again.

Re: Indicators
Ok, I’m officially stumped. The wiring passes through connectors under the right side fairing pocket, in the white frame up front. A short in there could tie both sides together. I’ve never seen the turn signal switch cause anything like this.

Re: Indicators
Morning Daleboy
I recently had extremely bizarre behaviour with brake lights / tail lights and indicators.
It came down to bad earth wire in the grey 14 pin connector as indicated by Techdude2000, AND ....the connectors to the lamp holders in the rear light clusters were all giving poor connections and high resistance.
Separating the contacts and using contact cleaner, then reconnecting and disconnecting a few times to make good connections worked.
Good luck
Don

Re: Indicators
Morning again Dale
It wouldn't hurt to run a temporary earth to see if it fixes the problem.
My problem was high resistance and bad earths on the rear light clusters and that impacted the front indicators as well.
Good luck with it
