Vibration on 2008 wing

Post by bdukes »

I bought a 2008 wing with 31,000 miles. It had set out a couple of years. The price was right. it has a vibration in highway pegs at around 30 mph and in the front part of seat between 45 and 50 mph. Just replaced front tire as it was 12 years old. Rear tire is cupping and only 5 years old. They are Michelin Commanders. Replaced front tire with dunlop elite and no change. The vibration is more of a buzz. Any ideas about where to look? :!:

Pull the clutch and see if the vibration continues.
The typical places to look: tires, wheel bearings, steering bearings, u-joint, swingarm, etc.

I agree with checking the bearings and u-joint. I would also replace the back tire since you have some cupping.

If you have a Lift that the rear drops down to suspend the rear tire (or someway a raising the rear end safely), you could start the motorcycle, put it in gear to get it up to the speed where you hear the or fill the vibration. Then you will know if u-join is causing the problem.
