2001 GL1800 Multi Display error

Working on a GL1800 2001 today. Brought in the shop with the Multi-display (above the ignition key) showing a "charging error" with the engine running. Engine off Key on displays "CHG System Faulty". I have not seen this before. No MIL lamp on. Tested the charging voltage it was 14.5v at the battery so I know it was charging. The rider had ridden 80+ miles after the message showed up which would have killed the battery if it wasn't charging. ECM had codes 11,12,13,14,15,16,17 which I believe are unrelated. I checked and cleared codes in the ECM but that did not clear the error messages on the Multi display. I did some additional testing of the alternator and in the process of disconnecting and reconnecting the battery the displayed error messages were cleared. I believe the errors were triggered by low battery voltage caused by prolonged idling (10+ minutes) while running lights and heated jacket. My greatest frustration with this is there is little to no information on the function of the Multi Display documented in the Honda Repair manual or the Owners Manual. Does anyone here have experience with these error messages and the function of the multi-display?

Most know it as an INFO display. As for the message "charging error," I've never heard of that, and you are correct, there is no such information in the Owner's or Service Manuals. I would have told you to disconnect the battery for a few minutes to see if it goes away, and it seems it has. DTC codes 12-17 represent each fuel injector, and can be thrown if there is not enough voltage to start the Wing. DTC code 11 is for the speed sensor. Most likely, all have been there for a while. Code 11 can sometimes be thrown if riding through a bad rain storm.

My advice, ride it and see if they get thrown again.
