I purchased a new to me 2017 GL1800 5AC last fall to replace my 92 GL1500A. I was backing out of the garage today, in gear and clutch in (not in reverse), and started the bike as I was backing out. It started normally. As I moved onto the driveway, it all went south from there. I began to hear what sounded like the starter engaging as the engine was idling. I hit the kill switch, nothing. I turned off the ignition switch and removed the key. Still running. The only way I could kill it was to dump the clutch in gear. I restarted it and it would start and then die. Repeatedly. It wouldn't take any throttle without dying again. Pulled it back into the garage and then noticed the the reverse on off toggle switch no longer remains in and the neutral light stays on. If I press and hold it in, the reverse light illuminates. The bike starts but will hardly rev. Almost feels like it has a choke that's stuck on.
Now, I'm beginning to miss my snowmobile reverse lever on my old 1500.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Nick

Maybe welded contacts on a solenoid and backfeeding power?
Time to pull codes from the ECU as if it was backfeeding with the ignition turned off, that could damage things.
Did any of the fuses open?

Re: GL1800 - Dies after starting, reverse switch issue
This summer is packed full of scheduled commitments, so I was hoping to grab a ride or 2 when timing allowed. Wasn't planning on "wrenching" this newer bike for a while. Where I'm staying for the next week or so, has zero tools and closest Honda dealer is 30 miles away. Not sure how to even pull codes off the ECU. Have not had time to check the fuses yet. I'm reluctant to start it again with it running this bad. Maybe I should have listened to my wife and kept my 92 with no working radio. Bluetooth headsets were way cheaper than this 1800.

No. Also, I attempted several 2 second cranks this morning before work and it did not fire up which it usually does. I may have time to check fuses this evening.

Re: GL1800 - Dies after starting, reverse switch issue
I am not aware of any add-ons by the previous owner. The bike, by the way is a 2016 and purchased from a Honda dealer, so I received no additional information from them.
Update:
After spraying electronic cleaner into the reverse switch, it is staying in half the time as compared to never the other day. With the ignition on, I can hear the relays clicking when switching from neutral to reverse and back. After several cycles of that, I switch the ignition off and back on and start the bike. It starts immediately to the fast idle position like normal, but subsequently dies within 2-3 seconds. I also attempted to add throttle to see if it will rev. It acts like my two-stroke leaf blower when 1st started until it's warmed up. You have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it running... let off for a second and it dies. No visible smoke from the exhaust. I will check the fuel pump/filter early next week.
