Front fender

Post by echinus1988 »

I tried a search on classifieds but didn’t come up with anything.

Riding home today my front fender broke and fell off. I’m looking for a replacement.

It’s off a 2006 gold GL1800. Color isn't a major issue since I can get paint and clear coat I think. Just looking to find one. And yes Amazon has black ones. Prefer the gold color of at all possible.

Thanks.

You can still get those parts from Honda in the metallic gold.
Which parts do you need?

I thought about that. I hesitate only because of what I believe the price will be.

In the diagram, part #2. The front fender came off and got run over.

Thank you for your response. I’ll check.

Yours fears are valid. The price is hefty.

FENDER A, FR. *YR248M* (TOPEKA GOLD METALLIC), 61101-MCA-000ZW, $426.27 Honda List price.
MrCycles sells it for $304.78

I saw that when I looked. $377 for one. I'll look for used for a little longer and then just buy the black one for $50 on Amazon. I just don't see where the prices come from sometimes.

Partzilla has the gold one for $293
61101-MCA-000ZW
Doesn't seem way out of line. I can't imagine a good painter would even think about painting one for less than $100 probably more.
It is 2024 after all and a GoldWing is the most expensive bike Honda sells around $30k at the moment, so $300 for an exact fit OEM fender seems fine. My guess is the one on Amazon is a one size fits nothing knock off, that might fit or might not, or will require tweaking to line up. Could be as good as the Honda part or could be paper thin junk, you just never know. Like you never know what the color will be according to the description. "(will ship either black or white Fender randomly)"
The nice thing about Amazon is if you don't like it, you can just send it back.

As has been repeated here many times, "Thing only thing cheap on a GoldWing, is the rider"

I’m still looking for a used one. If lucky, I’ll find a used one. If not, I’ll decide what to do then. I am a cheap rider. I can’t justify a part like that for so much. The bike is still rideable so I’ll just use it without a fender until I find one.

Thank you all.

You will most likely need the 4 replacement bolts and 2 rubber washers as well.

I'm surprised you didn't lose the caliper covers after the fender fell off. The fender pretty much holds leading edges of the covers in place. If you continue to ride it without the front fender, you will probably risk losing the caliper covers too.

I just removed this one from a 2012. If you're within the 48 states, you can have it for $50. Of coarse it shows 12 years use, and one mount holes is broken out and cracked. The prior owner epoxied the crack. If interested, PM my your PayPal user name and I'll send you an invoice.

FYI ... some say that the Chineese knock-offs don't fit that well.

Also, upper front fenders are hard to find because if a Wing is wrecked, usually it's the first part that gets damaged.

Buy one unpainted -- take it to the body shop and have it paint patched or get the color code

$85 plus what -- $150 for a skilled auto painter ?

That's a good idea. My son just found me one painted, used, in good shape. Little more expensive but still reasonable enough.

Thank you for the suggestions.

There's one on craigsliist.org in Edgewater, Florida for $60.00. It looks good in the pictures and is silver looking in color. Hope you find one and get it fixed.

Update:

My son who is much better than I am at finding things found a gold's front fender, front fender rear with side covers from an 2006. All for under $300. Since my front fender rear is broken both on bolt holes and the rear tabs to hold the side covers I went ahead and bought it.

I appreciate the help I have received from everyone here and thank you all.

Got my new front and rear front fender. Went to put it on and decided it wouldn't hurt just to see if I have everything I need to do it. The video shows a rubber gasket on the bottom bolt of the front fender, not the top bolt though.

Is there supposed to be rubber washers on just the bottom?

Thank you.

Yup, just the bottom. Only two are required. There might be something in the back section, item 22 but that part isn't listed.
