2006 Goldwing Wiring Harness connector between Radio and Amplifier
Hello, I have a 2006 GL1800 which had a faulty amplifier in the trunk. The wiring connection between the Radio and Amplifier didn't seem to exist from what I can see. I have a new Amplifier that has RCA input connectors. I'm trying to figure out how to connect the Radio output to the RCA input of the new Amplifier. I need to splice some wires together to make this work. But I don't see where from the Radio is the output to the old Amplifier where I could tap into and splice to the new Amplifier. There doesn't seem much information on the connectors between the Radio and Amplifier. Any help greatly appreciated.

Is this an amplifier for sure? From what I have seen is the unit in the bottom of the trunk is a CB radio, Model JC-215H and part number 08E95-MCA-1000 and the unit above it I think is a CD changer. My 2002 has the CB radio but, does not have the CD changer. I am looking into buying one to add to my bike. It sits just above the CB radio unit which sits in the very bottom of the trunk.

If you are talking about 39160-MCA-A71, it might not be just an amplifier. Panasonic made it and calls it a tuner and amplifier, so you might not be able to swap it for a generic amplifier. I know there was a radio wiring supplement floating around on the forums a few years ago. I don't have a copy but you might want to search for it to see if it describes the wiring between the radio and the amp.

Previous Amp was a Sony Power Amplifier that was fitted to the trunk lid, I'm guessing it was after market, it didn't work. Also had a 6 stack CD changer in the Trunk boot compartment, but it didn't work, So I removed that also to have the space for a smaller amplifier and some tools, etc.
Included a picture of the CD player and the White Plug / White Socket it used near the middle Fuse box under the seat.

The changer looks Hondaline, but I haven't heard of a Sony amp. If it was aftermarket you may have to reverse engineer how it was hooked up. Maybe find any documentation on the units you removed as a starting point.
I found the diagram for the 2001-2005, but the 2006-2010 is different and I don't have it.
No idea if it is even in the factory service manual or if that is one of those supplement things that are hard to come by.

Well, depends on which configuration you are looking at.niftynev_19 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 03, 2024 7:38 pm Hello, I have a 2006 GL1800 which had a faulty amplifier in the trunk. <...>
The original equipment "premium audio" designation had an external amplifier mounted under the rear fender. Search on-line for the parts fiche for the specific location, model, etc. All of the 2006 models (in North America...) purportedly had this configuration, and I'd suspect AusNZ models might also be set up in that way.
So, if there's an amp in the trunk, then it's not original equipment - wiring configuration is however the bloke that bodged that into place did it, it would seem. The detective work would be done as part of extraction of the old device to configure a replacement amp. The only original items in that trunk cubby would be a CB radio and the CD player, both optional items for the 2006.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: The CD player photo you show is the OE model; 99 out of 100 of those are dead. The connectors you show; I'm thinking the one on the left is for the optionan CB radio - not sure about the ones on the right. The trunk lid device you're looking at isn't an amp; it's the trunk remote control unit.

Thanks to all for the reply's. Everyone was on the money, This was a bodge job from the start. Figured out that the previous owner wired the Amplifier input from the existing Speaker outputs behind the Front Speakers (guessing it didn't have rear speakers at the time, not sure) and ran wires back to the Amplifier for the input and then ran new wires back to the Speakers for the output. So essentially just a right and left input and no front and rear, so the front to rear fader never worked with the amplifier connected.
Not sure what ever happened with the original amp from the premium audio. I'm still learning about this GW, coming from an ST ownership, I can see similar why things are done, they're just bigger. lol. Thanks all.

2006 had 'premium audio', which included four speakers. Earlier models, the premium audio was optional...rear speakers were in that optional equipment condition.
Quite possibly, the trunk sub harness has opened up, causing (mainly) the right-rear speaker from functioning. Another very common problem, as the factory really didn't get the wire dress correct during initial installation of that sub harness.
Glad to read we've assisted; luck to you in getting things sorted out.
