Usually when this happens the grease has dried up or gotten hard. Radio Shack or others sell a control and switch cleaner. You can spray it on till you get some in and this may work or you may have the take the switch off so you can get in in a postion as to let the cleaner soak in for a while. this is what worked on mine. The other alternative is to replace it and it is pricey.
Re: Stuck Cruise control button
It hurts nothing to just leave the cruise turned on. My 2002 was on for 6 years, my 2007 has been on for 4 years.

Re: Stuck Cruise control button
Just last night, I tried the RADIO SHACK cleaner stuff. It comes out of the can SOOOOOOO COLD, it was like it was the component cooler stuff instead of the cleaner stuff. I had to check the can to see if I bought the wrong stuff! Anyway, I used it on the radio MUTE button, and it wasn't getting unstuck, even after spraying and waiting for 5 to 10 minutes. I was working the button trying to get to click in-and-out with no luck. I then tried some stuff that I think is great, and is called TRI-FLOW with teflon, and sprayed it with that. I stuck the tube into the opening on the switch just above it, and sprayed in there too, and THEN it started to work so apparently, I wasn't getting the lube in the switch where it needed it. Or maybe I just got lucky. I'm not sure what the switch housing looks like from the inside, so maybe it wasn't doing anything at all. But, the button works great now so I'm a cappy hamper.

Re: Stuck Cruise control button
I think spraying a lubricant into the mute button will work as gravity pulls the lubricant down into the switch, unfortunately it won't work for the cruise switch (Unless your wing is upside down!!, or maybe in Australia
) as the switch is above the opening so what ever you spray in there will be pulled downwards away from the switch. You really need to open up the switch gear housing on the right hand side and then with the top part (containing the cruise switch) upside down, spray your lubricant directly at the switch.. That's what I did and the switch has worked perfectly for more than a year now!!

Does anyone have a photo (or photos) of the controls opened up? I'd like to get a better idea of what's in there, and the orientation of the switches and stuff.

Re: Stuck Cruise control button
I had the same problem with mine and I got some electronic friendly spray contact cleaner from the local radio shack sprayed around the cruise button let it sit for about an hour then I started to work the button in and out and finally it freed up nicely I then had some electronic ,rust penetrating lube and sprayed that around the button several times and kept working the button in and out and now it works like it as new.....MINT

I had the same problem !
And also the lights around those switches are dead.
So, last night, I opened that black box (2 scews underneith)
and looked at that. Very very small things inside.
I used ''Jig-a-loo'' lubricant tried to ''push'' it inside the switch. A couple of on and off and it is allright.
But the lights... so small...
Does any one ever change one ?

i have been told by a honda dealer that washing of the bike will cause a build up of soap in the switches. you need to rinse the switches well just as you would the bike.

careful of "JIGALOO", it's not terribly plastic-friendly.

The best way to clean and lube the switches is to open up the housing that the switches are in. It is really simple you just remove the two screws that come in from the bottom and CAREFULLY seperate the halfs. Then just spray the switches (with the power off) with a good cleaner and work them a couple of times. Let the switches air dry for about ten minutes the screw everything back together.
I ride year round here in southern California and found I have to clean the switches about twice a year.
