+1? Like? What's this?

Post by WingAdmin » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:47 am

You might have noticed little buttons popping up here and there on the site. They look like this:

They let you tag pages, topics, or any other page within the system when you think it contains something useful.

The "+1" button is a Google button. When you find something on the site that you think is particularly useful or informative, and you think other people on the Internet might benefit from it, click the +1 button. This will tell Google that you think that page is a useful one, and it will mark it as such when people do Google searches in the future.

The "Like" button is a Facebook button. Again, if you find something on the site that you like, clicking that button will mark it as such within Facebook, and help others find it in the future.

They're a couple ways to help support the site while helping out your fellow Goldwingers.

Of course, the best way to help support the site is of course to support the advertisers. I'm not allowed to tell you to click on the advertisements - that's known as "click fraud." However - if you DO see an advertisement for a product or service that might benefit you, keep in mind that clicking through that ad to check it out is what pays the bills to keep this site up and running. :)

If you have any other suggestions as to what we might add or change in order to improve the site, I'd love to hear them!

One of the main problems is that I've not had anything go wrong on my bike, so no source of How To's to create. I do plan on doing a timing belt How To this winter. And...well, a little bit of a surprise, perhaps I'll wait to talk about that when I know more. :)

Hey, this IS a really good idea. I haven't seen the +1 thing around before, but I definitely like the fact that I found you guys via google, and think anything that helps keep you around, will turn around into being a help for me. Yay!

Thanks so much WingAdmin for all that you do here. And this announcement was good for me to read. I hope the other new members take the suggestion to read them when they join. I will do my best to be helpful here. The best thing to happen since I bought my Goldwing 1982 GL 1100i besides the fact is is such a good running, smooth riding machine, is finding this site. If ever there is more I can do to help, please let me know. People on here willing to be so helpful has restored a bit in my belief in the human kind.

I was on Facebook very early on but didn't last long and was off social networks for quite a few years before getting into Google+. This is an environment I enjoy and find very engaging with better security and more control over what shows up in my "stream". Great place to be and a +1 is what is most applicable sometimes.
This is my first post. Been trying to download the owner's manual for my 2006 GL1800P but have not had any luck. Some of the other doc's look pretty good. The 2006 has only 2600 miles on it and I'm purchasing from the original owner who's made some very nice Kuryakin additions to the ride. Very styling! A beauty of bike that will be my ride for hopefully many many years to come.

Great idea on the forums! How to's are always a welcome sight. I have learned a lot on them and I build trikes in our area of Walton County, GA., so any new ideas are always worth watching. :)

I would like to echo the thanks to you as well.

As far as the How-to videos. Can others upload those videos? I need to change my tires in spring 2013 and would be willing to video record the entire process, if it would help...

I would also like to see more videos in the future. Come this spring I am going to be detailing my bike. This will entail a strip down, cleaning, and reassembly. I will try and capture as much of it through video as I can so that I can post it here. As I am new to the Goldwing world I will be learning as I am going, and having a video to help me put it back together could be useful. :D

I'd love to do videos as well - the problem is, I'm working on my own, and it's pretty hard to do the work and hold onto a video camera at the same time, especially being that most procedures take both hands to do!

WingAdmin, I seen those ads appearing on this site, whereas previously I would see local ads for goods and services. I trust you havent lost this revenue stream at all, as I know, every little bit helps.

The ads are determined and targeted toward the users - and it's all done by Google, completely out of my control. So what you see, isn't what someone else will necessarily see. If you go use Google to look up information on basket weaving, then come here, in all likelihood, you'll see advertisements related to basket weaving.

All I can say is this site is the best I'v been on, and your How-to's are super WingAdmin. I'v been on bike's from Cusman to Goldwings over 60 years and working on all of them and still find idea's on this site I never knew or old one's like cutting the ground electrode on the spark plug for performance from the 60's. Keep up the great work.

Now that is the simplest problem to fix I can think of...Just tell everyone on the forum that if something needs fixin, you will gladly come down (or up) to fix it if they will just hold the camera and take a lot of pics as you go along. Problem solved.....And look at all the riding time you will get if you ride to each persons house. You could change your name to "The Travelin Mechanic". After a couple of years, then write a book about it, sell a million copies and retire..

I think twostrokes48 has a great idea there. Heck, lots of us would be interested in a complete set of the current printed How-To's for our specific bikes -- punched for 3-ring binders, maybe, so we can take them into the shop/garage/basement/backyard.

I would never do a major project without one of your how-to's next to me and would happily pay for a complete set, just to support the site. But I suspect you've heard all this before.....

I can see the reality TV series unfolding now..Something like the house rebuilds shows, or the old car restorations they do for folks. Do you go netowork or cable channel??? A full garage following you in an 18wheeler rig. It's coming together. While fixing the problem, you add all the mods that folks have come up with to each bike to update the thing. Like the jacks for the GPS or MP3's, Like Rudy's stuff to keep the lids on, or monitor voltage.. Honda will be the main sponsor....Everyone involved gets rich... quick do something before I wake up..
