2003 GL1800A parts

Post by armsrn »

Hey All
I have just found out about this site
I have been with the Goldwing Owners site for years
It looks really good!!
Unfortunately as you see by the ad I have an 03 for parts
We had an accident in ND this July
We survived !! :? but the bike has been wrote off :( Left side took most of the damage
It still runs great and alot of extras still usable

My other idea is does anyone know of an 01-04 that is in good shape but needs an engine. I know that is a long shot
We are planning on another 'wing for next year :)
Enjoy

every day is a good day.......some are just gooder than others

I am surprised that you did not repair it. Where you have it parked looks like a garage where things get done. It would not take a lot to fix what you have. Did you get a repair estimate and a pay out from the insurance company? Removing an replacing an engine will take lots more work than repairing what you have.

Hey Mike
The 'wing was in North Dakota when the adjuster looked at it
At that time it did not start
As we were pulling a trailer they figured that the frame is bent and front forks
I have since got it running ( it was in gear) runs good
I agree that it could have been repaired but the insurance company wrote it off
Enjoy

Hopefully they paid you a settlement.

I don't know about you but I feel its always better to get a Honda Motorcycle Dealer do the evaluation and estimate. An insurance adjuster just does not have the expertise to evaluate all vehicles.

I had an accident with my 2003 in August 2014. Estimate of over $14,000 in parts. It was a total. They paid me $14,000 and I bought it back from the insurance company and re-titled it, bent forks, broken fairing and all for $3,000.
For just a little over $4,000 I bought and replaced all the necessary and made all the repairs. That was 4 years and 40,000 miles ago. Still going strong.

If it is mechanical, you have a very good chance of making it as good as new. Wish I could say the same for the human body.

The insurance company gave me the needed paperwork. Talk to them. I'm sure it is a simple matter. At least it was Washington, USA.

I hope all goes well with getting your bike back on the road. I'm sure it is very achievable.

Red is the prettiest in my estimation.

Great job! Glad you got it all put together and ready to ride. I knew you could do it.

When I rebuilt mine I had lots of pride in my accomplishments but it was difficult to express it to anyone.
I replaced lots and lots of the broken and/or bent parts.
Replaced the left radiator, rebuilt the forks with new tubes, slides and seals.
It was a chore but a labor of love. That was 53,000 miles ago and it is still doing great.

This is her, three years after the accident and rebuild.

The insurance covered the repair with about $6,500 to spare.
