Desperately Searching for 2000 Goldwing SE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by zeoran »

Since I was gloriously and ridiculously stupid enough to let the one in Santa Clarita slip through my fingers right after God handed my dream bike to me on a silver platter, I'm now desperately searching for another one. If it's going to be out of CA, then I can't have any that need fixing up and I need to know how I'd possibly check out a bike thoroughly without traveling there first. I did a CL search in EVERY city for every state in CA and bordering CA and the only one is the white 2000 near SF that doesn't run.

I'd love to turn back time and buy the one from Santa Clarita or even pay the person who did buy it $1,000 to take it off his hands. Presumably, he was only using it for parts, which he can get elsewhere... I can't find another one of those bikes anywhere. It was the perfect color, perfect condition, perfect options, perfect everything to what I'd been dreaming of since I sold my '82 Interstate.

Now I have to pray that somehow there's one just as perfect out there, although it's remarkably unlikely. I was looking forward to buying that bike this week when I got the settlement from the insurance company from my accident on my ST1100. It had sat on CL for 23 days when I found it, I thought it would last just a few more... Murphy's Law proved me wrong.

Here's hoping and praying....

God bless guys,

~Mark

I guess you didn't read...

I mentioned that in my original post. But it only has 1,603 miles and DOESN'T RUN. I've asked questions in other threads about the potential dangers of a bike with that low mileage and all the multitude of things that could be wrong with it.

You can't lose something you never had. That bike wasn't meant to be. Don't worry, you will cross paths with the perfect bike.

Any vehicle 20 years old is going to need some work, regardless of mileage. Even if it's running fine when you look it, could have a dozen things go wrong right away. But just as likely that a shot of starting fluid gets it fired up and you do nothing but tires and oil changes for the next 20 years. You have to be a mechanic to own something this old.

As far as that one the Stu linked to, sounds like a nice bike to look at and make an offer expecting that you will need to spend some time and money. If it starts and runs without much time and money - SCORE! - but budget as if that's not going to happen.

There's a similar one for sale right on this very board: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=55473 long time member though not many posts. Of course it's NOT as close to you.

Thing is, i need something that runs right away. I'm not against it needing a little tlc, but I need it to commute to my new job. That's what i was using my st1100 for. I've got about 4 months till I move and I need a reliable means of transportation that's also low cost for gas, etc and can save me time on the freeway.

Here is one ready to fly and ride home in TX. He'd probably pick you up at DFW airport.

Does it absolutely have to be a 2000? I listed a 1990 just out of Santa Clara, and it's not only beautiful, but ride ready. The owner is asking $2750.

I actually purchased a 99 Aspy from Phoenix that was recommended by someone here on the forums a few weeks ago.

I AM looking for handlebar controls from a late 90's SE to swap with my Aspy.

Yes, I've actually seen it in person and it wasn't in anywhere near the shape it appears to be in the pictures, a scenario I ran into many times. But I'm very happy with my 99 Aspy, just need to get those SE handlebar controls.

I'm glad that my suggestion to you, from an old friend out in Phoenix worked out well.

my 1800 does NOT have lighted controls, just get used to it.

I'm very glad you put us together as well. It's worked out VERY well for both of us (especially me).

And I can't let it go that easy. It's not just that I would REALLY prefer having backlit controls (especially since my fingers don't know where things are yet and keep missing in the dark) but also because they're backlit blue, which is my favorite color and I'm an easy sucker for, but also because with the rear speakers I need a fader control and I refuse to put a hole in my beautiful ignition cover with the 50th anniversary emblem in it. If I got the SE controls, I could tick off all the boxes and get the built-in fader control. There's nothing on the SE controls I can't use. My only worry is that there isn't already a spot to plug in whatever the controls use as a source for power for the backlighting on my bike. But from what I've seen, Honda used the same wiring harness for the Aspy as the SE. I've got the CB, I've got the rear speakers, I've got the cornering lights, there's not much differing my Aspy from an SE except the two-tone paint and the backlit controls.

I also really want to either replace my gauge lights with LED's or just replace the white gauges with the black versions or both. Those white gauges with the original bulbs are absolutely terrible. I'm having to use the GPS to tell me my speed at night because I can't read the damn speedometer.

Hope everyone is staying safe and is healthy. I'll be bleeding brakes this weekend. Need to put in the speed bleeders first.

God bless,

~Mark

I still have the left control with the fader from my 99SE available.
