Pet Carrier
Hi fellow Goldwingers. I am looking for suggestions on a pet carrier for My '08 GL1800 trike. As You can see on The photos, This is What I have to work With. ( Flags will have been removed). I have a small dog ( 10 lbs.)
So if You have one and can give Me a review That would be great. Or if There's a member That has one for sale let Me know.
Thanks for reading My post. Have a great day and safe travels to all!

Re: Pet Carrier
The capacity of the rack is probably about 10 pounds, so go as light as you safely can with the carrier.

Re: Pet Carrier
we have a carrier on the 1500 trike and I have one on my 02 1800, it is a bit tricky to get it on the 1800 securely but can be done. we have 2 different brands but the kuryakyn is the one I like best
they both are very good quality but the kuryakyn is a little smaller at the base so it was easier to get it mounted

Thank You for The reply. Looks like You have The same rack on Yours. I am being told That There is a 10# weight limit on That rack now. Did You somehow reinforce The rack? I'd hate to have My rack rip off and send The fur baby flying.

Re: Pet Carrier
those rack mounts will crack the top lid, unless you use very large washers underneath, and top side ( looks bad though ).
I never put anything on the top rack that weighs more than about 4 or 5 lbs.
to me, it just is not worth it, top lids are hard to find, and expensive.

I have to agree with AZgl1800, you have to be careful what you put on the lid. I had to plate mine on the underside of the lid as it had cracked at one of the mount points prior to me buying it. The one on my 1800 is just temp. until I get a sidecar mounted. if your going to install a carrier take the time to remove the inside liner and at the very least install some large fender washers, I also drilled and bolted the front part of the rack to the lid and used a rubber spacer between the rack and the lid for vibration to keep the weight from pulling at the mount points and cracking more. I highly recommend this mod

I have a friend who carries a full set of golf clubs with him.
but, he has a hitch and a carrier which slides into that hitch receiver.
I have a similar carrier that I made to precisely fit the ice chest that I use to soak/cool my Phase Change cooling vest.

I also have a hitch and a trailer. Thought about rigging something to hook up to hitch but don't want The exhaust to choke out The dog. Thank You though.

Re: Pet Carrier
Where I used to do weekend rides, I saw a lot of custom dog carrier setups on touring bikes. Most replaced the trunk lid completely. Some were really nice with little windshields and a snap down cover to hold the dog in place yet allow the head to poke through. There was even one guy with a helmet and goggles for his dog.
