Complete '94 GL1500 for parts

Post by blupupher »

My '94 GL1500 SE has the infamous 4th gear shift shaft failure, and I am not going to mess with it.
Bike still runs and rides, just a ton of noise in 1, N, 2, and 3 with the shaft failing, and sloppy downshifts from 5 to 4.
Bike is cosmetically in great shape with 98,800 miles, has had all maintenance taken care of (brake and clutch fluid new, fresh rear gear fluid, splines lubed), new 95 amp alternator, Maxxis Taxi tire on rear with 7,000 miles, progressive springs in front, fluid changed in rear air shock, Madstad windscreen and AGM battery less than 6 months old. LED headlights and cornering lights converted to clear lens LED full time on.

I just bought an 1800, so this needs to go.
I have it listed on Facebook/craigslist for $2,000, but will take less from someone here.
Again, bike is rideable, but no idea on how long the transmission will last.
Either an engine swap or take all needed parts from this and put it on yours will give you a nice bike.
I have ridden it almost 1000 miles since the noise started, and will keep riding it some till it is gone. I actually to get it over 100,000 miles so may take a few long rides to get it there so I can say I had a bike with over 100,000 miles.

Bike is in Katy Texas (just west of Houston).

Yup, I was very upset when it happened. I was actually riding the Three Sisters (aka Twisted Sisters in the Texas hill country) when it happened. Cut my trip short and just rode home when it happened.
Still kinda ticked off about it, but what can you do.

I had been looking for beat up 1500's since it happened hoping to find a deal on one with a lot of body damage but good frame/engine and swap my stuff over, but nothing came up, and came across a great deal on the 1800 so ...

Yes, I had put a shift shaft pivot on right after I got the bike.
It improved shifting and recommend it to anyone that gets a 1500 to buy an original one before they are all gone.
My bike was past that point though, the shift fork was damaged and nothing except a rebuild and parts replacement would fix it.

Like I said, bike was sold locally.
