WANTED: 1997 (or 1995-2000) right side panel/battery cover

Post by chafa1234 »

A couple weeks ago I picked up a gorgeous 1997 GL1500 in spectra red with gold pinstriping. Fast forward to today, I was cruising on the highway when my right side battery cover flies off and gets instantly crushed my the traffic behind me.

Does anyone have a right side battery cover panel that would fit a 1997 GL1500? Or can point me in the direction of one?

As of now, I am considering buying aftermarket and having it painted in factory Honda color, but I know it'll look a little "off" due to factors like age. I don't know what to do about the gold pinstriping though. I'm bummed out to say the least. Any insight is appreciated.

Thank you.

Keeper straps and new grommets from time to time. That is always the side that goes first.

They are getting more and more rare, and as a result, expensive - they regularly go for $300-400 on eBay when they show up, and often go into a bidding war.

Your best bet is to buy an aftermarket replacement and have it painted to match.

Oh, and replace the grommets and buy some retention straps!

It is my understanding that a body shop can 'scan' a body panel to determine a paint 'code' that is an exact match so as to address fading, etc. And if they can't match the pinstriping, a custom shop or pinstriper certainly can.

Good luck.
