How to tune your CB antenna SWR (GL1800)

Post by WingAdmin »

The process for tuning your antenna on the GL1800 is almost identical to the GL1100 process explained here: How to tune your CB antenna SWR

The only difference is that in step 4, the antenna leads are not located beneath the cowl, instead they are located behind the seat. When checking SWR, the meter should be connected on the antenna wire as close to the transmitter as possible (i.e. you wouldn't connect it right at the antenna, you would connect it right near the transmitter). On the 1800 the CB tuner is located in the trunk, and the antenna lead comes out the front of the trunk:

To hook up your SWR meter as shown in step 5 and 6 in the How to tune your CB antenna SWR tutorial, you would instead remove the seat, disconnect the antenna lead from the CB radio antenna lead, and insert your SWR meter between these leads.

This method isn't correct for the 2nd generation (2012 and above) as all the connections are in the trunk, no need to remove the seat or the top shelter, no holes to drill, all connections are accessible. Will check with my local CB shop about how to check the SWR's, and post an update when I have it.

Just installed the GL2Way last night, sounds good, but haven't talked to anyone on it yet.
