Hello, I have a 2007 GL 1800 that I bought almost 3 years ago. The built in Navigation system (By garmin) has never worked properly and I would love to get it working again.
It shows my location on the built in screen but when I try to put in a destination, the field that I put it in has a Honda Dealership typed in there (I didn't type it in) and it's "greyed out."
I haven't bothered to update the map since I wasn't sure if the GPS was going to work or not. Does anybody have some experience with this type of problem or where I can go to get it fixed? I live in Canada but live close to the Northwest (98844- Washington State).
Thanks,
John

I don't have the built in Garmin. However, I have had problems with a Garmin and they are great about fixing it. I might suggest contacting the manufacturer via email and see what they might recommend. If you can get them any info about model or serial it would help them.

Not sure, but it is a step I would take as a starting point. I do know that the Garmin models I have allow you to erase and reset the unit to factory default. Maybe that is all you need and then an update. Worth a shot, sir.

Hi. You may just need to reset the unit. I am surprised that shutting off the bike doesn't already do it, however, these OEM units were never the most user friendly. To reset, you would need to open your trunk, and take the plastic off the outside of the GPS to expose the tiny little reset hole. Once you have that, straighten a paper clip and carefully (not too hard) stick it in the hole till you get a resistance, and then push just a bit more. Hold for 30 seconds. This needs to be done with the bike ignition turned to the ACC position so that the unit has power. If this does not do it, then I would be concerned that a previous owner had attempted to upgrade the unit and failed during upgrade, thereby bricking the box. They are pretty hard to brick, so don't give up too soon. Also check the CF card, and inside the card slot to ensure the card is properly seated, and that there are no bent card slot wires.

I appreciate the info Viking. Since I don't have an onboard GPS, I didn't know the reset procedure. Thanks for enlightening us both!

Thanks Viking,
It's still a little cold here in BC so I haven't got my wing on the road just yet- I'm just getting everything ready and in place for the 20th when I get the insurance and get out riding. I will put the battery back in and give your suggestion a try asap.
Thank you,
John
