1997 GL1500...extra fuel tank

Post by AzPayne » Mon May 30, 2016 4:27 pm

I recently purchased this Honda Gold wing and was told it had an extra fuel tank in one of the saddlebags see picture. I asked the guy how it worked and he said it automatically flows into the main tank. As I am nearly empty On my first tank of gas I realized I still had a full reserve tank. Since I'm not sure how these work is it safe to assume once my tank runs out the new tank will kick in? As you can imagine I'm a little nervous about being on the open road thinking I have an extra tank of gas and it never kicks in… everything looks like it is hooked up so I'm just looking for some information if anyone has something similar. Thanks

Being that the saddlebag is below the fuel tank, unless you have one of those magic anti-gravity devices that causes fluids to run uphill, you have an electric pump somewhere that pumps it up into the main tank. The other alternative is perhaps a valve somewhere that switches the intake from the main tank to this reserve tank in the saddlebag.
