GL1000 Exhaust question

GL1000 Exhaust question
My wife surprised me for Valentines day with a GL1000, and even though I have several other vintage Hondas, I haven't really had much exposure to the GLs. My question is, why are there 2 holes on the bottom side of each muffler. They don't appear to be screw holes because they aren't tapped, but they do allow quite a bit of exhaust to escape creating a pretty good exhaust leak. If anyone could enlighten me, it would be most appreciated.

My '75 with a stock exhaust definitely has one hole each side underneath which, allegedly, are drain holes for moisture/condensation. Yes, they are the stock exhaust. I'm surprised that they allow that much exhaust to escape.
