Hello all. I've been getting great info on this forum for a while. I have a 76 gl1000.
I recently changed out the stock exhaust for some Harley pipes. As soon as I switched I could hear a ticking noise on the left side. I changed the plugs, got shocked by the wire ( so I guess that's good), and adjusted all of the valves. I still have that loud tick.
If I remove the plug wire from #2 the noise goes away until I reconnect it.
Any ideas on what might need fixing?
I forgot to mention that I have electronic ignition, not sure if it matters.
Any help is appreciated.

It could be spark jumping from the plug cap, that could explain why you got bit.

The wire was loose. I cut it back and reattached it. No shocks since.

Seeing as you've just changed the exhausts, I think you have a very slight exhaust leak on #2 manifold. This can sound very much like a 'ticking' sound.......This very fault had me checking and re-checking the valve clearances on my FJ1200!C111 wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 6:43 pm Hello all. I forgot to mention I also changed the gaskets on the exhaust manifold. Shouldn't that have stopped any leaks?

Re: Number 2 cylinder ticking
I did remove the old ones. I really hope this is just an exhaust issue, but I can't find a leak. I guess I'll break out the soapy water and see what I can find.

Good idea, since the Muffs are new, there are several joints that may have a pin hole.

Re: Number 2 cylinder ticking
Would a small leak cause me to hear that clicking only at the rear of the exhaust?
