H4 LED replacement bulb

Post by Fred Camper » Wed Aug 01, 2018 10:40 pm

Lots of replacement hi lo headlight bulbs, but anyone found one to work well with a GL1000 reflector. Nice article on one for a GL1500 bit that is a different lighting size.

I like mine from Rivco, but it's an 1100.

Don't think you will get one to fit inside a stock headlight bucket.

Yet, as I stated, I have one in a stock headlight bucket. In a stock fairing. With good results.
Real life experience, including the fact that I JUST got home, and it's Waaaaay after dark.
Even saw the deer well before panic.

Jeff, who really did what you are asking about.

The headlight bucket in the fairing is not the same as a stock naked bike headlight bucket. I'm sure it would work in a fairing.

Exactly.

No way this works in a stock GL 1000 headlight.

I do need a solution for a stock headlight bucket. Electric Connection says they have one where you only have to modify the rubber cover on the back. My headlight bucket already has two relays and a headlight modulation relay so not a bunch of room left. I do worry about cooling it with so little airflow in the bucket.

You'd need a reflector of some sort to start with.

There is no bulb that will just drop into a GL 1000 bucket without getting a new reflector.

A H6024 sealed beam will fit right in it and is a lot better than the stock headlight.

That's just a halogen setup and I don't think there's any energy savings over a stock bulb.

He wants to go LED.

The LED H4 that I used is no longer than the stocker. There is very little room in the Apsencade fairing for ANY extra length, but this bulb fits and works well.
So, I stand by my earlier statement, that this bulb will fit and work well.

But, I am only one guy, and the naysayers outnumber me.

O'reillys wants $700 for the Sylvania light.

WalMart only wanted $185.

I didn't know we were being energy efficient here, thought maybe he just wanted a better headlight.

Like I stated, no experience with this unit from Cyclemax but it sure looks like it should work. If not why not?

Pointless.
This why this board is so helpful. No one posts unneeded commentary that does not advance the discussion.

I HAVE this exact LED lamp.

It WORKS, and works well, I can prove it, and do, every night I come home.

It was requested I attach a link, and did so promptly.

And was called "pointless".

You want my 40 years of help and experience, or not??

Keep hitting with irrelevant opinion combined with lack of experience, and I'll fix my own bike, and sod all for you.

Yeah, that's harsh, but so is inexperienced opinion aimed at "helping" others. It doesn't help, it hurts. And discourages.

it was explained to you in an earlier post that while that setup might well fit your headlight bucket, in an Aspencade, that it is not a drop into a standard GL1000 headlight.

For whatever reason you fail to grasp that point.

YOU failed to see THAT, and continue to post irrelevant material.

I'm done, no more advise from me, on anything.

Sad, just sad.

For the last time.

A standard GL 1000 headlight DOES NOT TAKE a bulb of any kind.

It is totally a sealed beam.

It is your choice to leave as obviously you cannot admit that you made a mistake.

Something WE ALL do on occasion.

If yours is a sealed beam it is not the original headlight.
