Fuel Injection Issue?

Post by artoftheflatlands » Sun Jan 12, 2020 8:35 am

I just replaced the regulator/rectifier on my 1200 LTD and now it will not prime the fuel. I did notice (unfortunatly after) that the wiring for the new one was slightly different at the plug. I had tried to crank the engine, it spun once and would not turn over again. I am thinking that I somhow damaged the CFI on it. Maybe the Controle computer its self, though I don't know if those things are even connected. I'm hoping I just missed somthing, I checked all the fuses, swapped a few relays, still nothing. I'm stumped.

Do you have the 3 manuals: OEM or after market service manual for the 1200, the electrical troubleshooting manual, and the supplement for the FI model. If not recommend getting a copy.

There is a 30 amp fuse for the CFI system that is located to the right of the battery. It is the white wire coming off the battery terminal of the starter solenoid. If this fuse, normally a dog bone fuse, has failed there will be no power to the CFI system.

When you turn on the key does the Fuel System light come on and go off, or stay on? If it stays on check the ECU under the trunk for error code(s). This Fuel System light has nothing to do with the fuel system, it is the check engine light for your bike. The ECU does a system diagnostic check and if there is an interrupt in the electrical signal from one of the sensors/fuel injectors then an error code is generated.

Lots to look at. Good luck. Cheers

Pictures of the RR install would be a help as well.

None of the fuel system lights come on or go off. I looked at the ECU under the seat and the light does not go on and off on that as well. The 30 amp fuse dog-bone fuse seems to be intact. Someone modified a another 30 amp fuse into the link wire but that is not blown either. I did notice that the voltage goes up when hitting the start button. The engine stop doesn't effect this.

Anything happen when the key is turned on? The RR install should not affect the start of the engine. Disconnect the RR from the system and see what happens.

There appears to be a lack of power to the CFI system. I would jump the 30 amp fuse that provides power to the CFI system to prove the system.

I'm wondering if unplugging the dashboard trip computer has anything to do with the cfi?

If you are mentioning the travel computer on the shelter, has no impact.

Shucks. I was hoping for it to be that simple.
