So time to get a new air filter. Off comes the shelter, etc. What's missing? The RH air duct. Bike has 35,000 miles and I bought it at 28,000. No running problems, but anything bad going to happen if it's run without the intake duct? (Parts ordered, btw).
Thanks,
Ron

Re: Missing air duct 2008
When you say 'air duct' do you mean the air intake duct to the filter? If so, no, not a problem.

Re: Missing air duct 2008
5th gens that are missing one of both air-box air ducks sound throatier. Like when at 16yo and some would barrow their moms car, some would flip the air cleaner lid over for a louder effect.
If missing, be sure to order in a new mount screw for the air duct, and inspect the ECM stay that has the hole that the mount screw goes into. Sometimes the screw hole gets crack out.

GoldwingrGreg, my shop reminded me to do just that and the parts came in yesterday. Thank you for your help.

Parts installed. Yes the stay hole was cracked out.
Motor noise is a little quieter. Seems to run better (could be all in my mind but I'm happier). Done!

It's only a little quieter. The rest is in your mind. But some think they run better after they get a bath

Interesting. On mine, it seems to be when there's a fresh oil change.
