Airbag Data Download Connector
Does anyone know how to download my airbag data?
Is there a special connector?
Is there special software?
Thanks!

Re: Airbag Data Download Connector
Apparently every airbag after a certain date has a memory of events.
It records speed and gs before deployment.
The accident investigator is trying to download the data.
Manufacturers have different connectors.
We can’t find the one for Goldwing w airbags.
Thanks if you can help.

Re: Airbag Data Download Connector
All Airbag-equipped GL1800's definitely DO have an EDR. This is from the 2007 Airbag Supplement to the owner's manual:
It is NOT a standard OBDII connector like in automobiles, nor does it use the same protocol.
The data is accessed using the Data Link Connector located under the seat. It is a non-standard, proprietary connector that requires special software available only to Honda dealers in order to access.Event Data Recorders
This vehicle is equipped with one or more devices commonly referred to as
event data recorders. These devices record airbag deployment data, and the
failure of any airbag system component. This data belongs to the vehicle owner
and may not be accessed by anyone else except as legally required or with the
permission of the vehicle owner.

Ok, thank you very much for the information.
That makes sense and good that the data is secured and, hopefully accessible.
I'm contacting my local Honda dealer to see how they might help me.
Thanks!

Hmmm, makes me wonder if it's possible to delete the stored data. Anyone know?

Re: Airbag Data Download Connector
I somehow got a call back from Tim from Honda corporate.
Apparently they just moved all their offices out of CA.
Apparently they have never had the request and although they acknowledge
that the data is retrievable, they are not clear as to how.
As I understand the question is what connector and what computer is needed to download the data.
I see that there is a Bosch computer suggested and, is that sure to be known to work?
Thanks All!

Re: Airbag Data Download Connector
Sorry Gary although my shop works on more 5th gens then probably any other shop in the world, I've never been asked that question or had to work on a 5th gens airbag system itself. If I had a Service Manual handy, I could answer your question better. However, if I recall, I beleive there is a way to pull DTC (digital trouble codes), similar to pulling DTCs for the PGM-FI section. Doing so required jumping an electrical port using an inexpensive Honda special tool. One would then count the AIRBAG light flashes, and use the diagnostic proceedures in a Service Manual to determin what the problem might be. There also might be a way of reading those codes using Honda's HDS pocket tester. Although I have that tester, again have never needed to use it for that. Another option might be using a Snap-On scaning tool ... their scannng tool might have SW for scanning that system too. I beleive the Snap-On scanners start at about $4,000. To my knowledge, there is no down loadable CD or SW that can do the same.garyfrancis wrote: ↑Sun Jan 02, 2022 5:09 pm Does anyone know how to download my airbag data?

Are you having an issue and if so, what is it ???
Also, did your Wing's airbag ever get replaced ??? To know, you can type your VIN in here to find out if your scoot has any open recalls.
https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls?gclid=Cj0 ... lsrc=aw.ds
If you need a copy of any recalls, go to my web page. SB-24 is the one for airbags.

Re: Airbag Data Download Connector
Hi Greg!
Wow! Thanks for all the details!
I did talk to Tim at Honda again and although I didn’t get a lot of details he basically said they’ve also never had a request for downloading the airbag.
As I understand it’s a Bosch system and there’s a Bosch computer that can download the data.
He wasn’t really clear on what data exists but he did say that he didn’t think that it was near as much data as automobile airbags have.
Apparently automobile airbags have the speed and G forces and lots of other data in a timeline leading up to and after an airbag trigger..
Apparently the Goldwing airbag doesn’t have as much data and I’m not sure it has the speed or G forces and I don’t actually know what it is because he know the details
Apparently he gave the information to the legal department to give to the officer who is investigating the accident.
I have not gotten any calls back from the investigator yet.
It’s a bit frustrating but I’m trying to be patient.
Thanks again for the information and as soon as I learn anything else I will post it back here.
