Keys and coolant

Hi I have a 1990 1500 Goldwing,I have lost the keys can Honda help? Any idears? I have had a key cut from the fuel cap lock which just works but it feels like it’s going to break every time I use it. Also has anyone used waterless coolant in goldwings ? Thanks longdog

You can have a key cut from code. The code is stamped on the bottom of all the cylinders. It's a letter and two numbers. You can buy a blank key from Honda if you want the original GW key (there are two profiles, a left and a right). All my local locksmiths are bozos, so I ended up using someone out of state I found on ebay. He was able to verify my codes as the stamping on my cylinders was not clear. Very helpful and the keys I got worked great.

I agree, it's VERY tough finding knowledgeable locksmiths who are willing to help. It seems the skill set of the modern locksmith is limited to drilling out old door locks and replacing them, and cutting keys.

I called around for ages to find a locksmith who could cut and program a car key for me, and when I finally did find one, his shop was open between 12 pm and 2 pm, two days a week. He was surly and nasty to all his customers and charged a fortune. He seemed to hate his profession and his life, and took it out on his customers. Unfortunately he was the ONLY one in the city that I found that would do the work.

I know it's a little late now, but....
When I got my 1500, I had a spare key made and hid it on my bike.
If I ever lose the key, I know where the spare is....but no one else does!

That's because new door locksets are available for $10, so there's not a lot of call for serious locksmithing work at the "will call" level. People would rather buy three or four new locks than pay to have their old, quality locks rekeyed, tuned or made more tamper-resistant.

I'm getting into locksmithing as my retirement business. Most of the money is in lockouts and commercial work.
