Cruise control button - another problem added to the list...

I have been having just about every issue I can have with my somewhat recently acquired 1995 Aspy.

(One of) the latest problems was with the cruise control ON button. Last night I took it apart and actually took the button itself apart - probably should'nt have done that... Anyway, the button is toast and now I have to replace it. Of course there are some used units on ebay and I may go that route, but here is my question.

If I can just get a 12v waterproof latching switch and rig the old button to push it, wouldn't that work just the same? I mean, it's just an ON/OFF latching switch with two wires going to it, right?

Yes, you could substitute any switch. However, the easiest thing is just to jump those two wires together. There is no reason to ever turn off the cruise control. Also, the light will inform you of other faults, so having it on all the time is not a bad thing.

I didn't lose any of the parts, one of the tiny brass pieces was bent and when I bent it back it broke.

I may still try and get a switch in there, but at least you have given me a (brilliant) and easy solution. Thanks.

But now I have to get back to trying to fix my reverse circuit, so then I can get back to fixing my Cruise circuit....

I decided to try and install a replacement switch which went surprisingly well. For about $2 I got a switch off ChinAmazon and it fit in the hole without any mods to the housing. So it can be changed back to original at anytime. Works great... so far.
