90 1500 clutch?

I forgot to ask in last post if anyone elses has a hard time starting off from a stop? I have to really rev it and let clutch out slow like its in 2nd gear? Its in 1st and iv never had trouble with any of my other big bikes taking off? Been riding since i was 4 but 1st goldwing. If wifes on and a light turns or at stop sign, its just like taking off in 2nd. The clutch is not slipping as far as i can tell, once its moving i can get on it and it flat jumps! And if i dont stop all the way it has plenty of pull. Its like it needs a lower gear? If im not careful it will stall at stops and its dangerous with how people in cars think they have to floor it from lights and bout rearend u if ur not taking off right away?

What rpm are you starting at?
I have no problem leaving a light even in second gear.
The 1500 has a pretty flat torque curve.

It idles pretty hi already cuz i tried speedin it up to try and help if i remember right its bout 900 or so rpm.

It sounds like you might have a brake binding or not releasing when you take your foot off it. I have a 90 Goldwing and I have no problem taking off in second gear. This is just a guess, I'm not a mechanic. Rambozo knows a lot more than I do.

Theres no brakes sticking iv tried that by rolling back and forth, it rolls very easy. I just have to rev it up over 1500-2000 rpm and let clutch out very slow and sometimes pull it in a bit to let rpms raise back up unless i really rev it? Its like im trying to start in 3rd or so. Theres no way i could take off in 2nd

Have you changed oil recently? If not, then do so.
Use 10w-40 oil that is not Energy Conserving or High Mileage.
Check the oil bug and make sure the bottom half is clear with no text.

I did just change oil with honda 10w40. Whats oil bug? The level is good?

See the picture in the post above? That what I call an oil bug.
If you used Honda Oil, you are probably okay but did the problem pop up after you changed the oil? Did you use an additive?

Still dont know what it is you are calling a oil bug? Lol maybe its just goin over my head? All i have is a dipstick?

Sorry, oil bug is non-standard terminology. I should have said the API badge on the oil jug itself. API stands for American petroleum institute.

The bottom of that API badge should have no writing in it at all. If it has something there it means there is an additive to the oil and it will react negatively with a wet clutch. If you see "Resource Conserving" in the bottom half of that badge, you do not want to use it in our Gold Wings which have a wet clutch.

Thanks for that info. Didnt ever think of that just always used honda oil since i got it. But good to know.

Have you drained and flushed the clutch reservoir? There is an extremely small hole at the bottom of the master cylinder covered by a silver piece that has a hole in it for the fluid to go into the plunger. It is so small that it can only be cleaned by a single strand of a wire brush held by needle nose pliers. That hole is the return. The smallest amount of gunk could cause the return to be too slow and POSSIBLY be the issue. I recently had a clutch slipping issue two weeks after I flushed the reservoir. I went onto YouTube since the shop manual does not address this point.
