GL1200 1986 Rear Brake Lines

Post by Andystott » Tue Apr 23, 2013 7:56 am

Hi, my rear brake is totally goosed and I am in the process of rebuilding it including pistons, seals and master cylinder. The problem I have is that the steel brake lines are seized on the master cylinder and the only way I can move on is to replace the master cylinder and also replace the steel brake lines - is it a good idea to use Hel braided steel hoses and fix them back to the frame using cable ties so that the lines follow the original path including the link to the front caliper. OR do I need to search ebay to find some original steel lines. Any help would be good, Thanks :?

If you can make your own lines and attach the bradied lines. If you do use braided lines, make sure you use addel clamps and not zip ties. The zip ties will cut into your brake line and frame, They get oil and dirt under and act just like a hawk saw. I would try to find some stock lines. I don't know the size fittings used for making your own.
Enjoy the ride. They are all good, just some better than others.
