My last battery was the MotoBat and it performs very well.

I suspicion it came off the same assembly line as the others.
just has a different label on the side of it.
AZ, your going to have to admit you bought the Motobatt because it matches the color of the bike and trailer, Right! I use the Motobatt in my GL1800 also, no problems so far, it's been about 2 years now.
you got me there

I have bought 2 Motobatts in the past, both performed as they should.

Don’t know about best, but I like the Duracell version at SamsClub.

I don't know either what is the best, have not tried too many of them. Right now I am running a Renagade, have for just over 5k miles on it. So far real happy with battery performance and price. Was shipped promptly and arrived in good shape with test report.

My first Odyssey PC680 was new in August 2004, I replaced it in 2016 with another and now the 2004 Odyssey is in the 1200.

And it remained in the 1200. It started it fine June 21st and now it's gone from here with the 1200. Like seeing old friends leave, the 1200 bike and 2004 vintage Odyssey PC680.

I just had to replace a DuraCell after 2 1\2 years. Of course it had a 2 year warranty. Replaced with a Yuasa.

Question for dingdong...which Duracell battery did you have? Was it the gray case that is made in the USA or the other color case that is foreign made. I'm asking because my October 2018 replacement is the USA model, and I would like to know what I might expect for its longevity.

It was the gray case.

I found these pages describing a set of torture tests performed on various AGM motorcycle batteries:

Texas Toast Battery Cookoff
Texas Toast Battery Cookoff Part 2

Without question, by a far margin, the clear winner is the "MotoBatt" battery. I haven't heard of this brand before, but I'm pretty sure the Motobatt MBTX24U AGM battery will be the next battery I buy for my GL1500.
I've had good luck with "Tru gel" batteries. I have had one in my Honda Quad for about 8 years now. Still starts easily after sitting for months. I just bought a "Mighty Max" gel cell for my Honda CRF250L. So far okay, and very cheap.

Does anyone know how long a Motobatt shelf life is. I'd like to carry one on a long trip in case my installed battery gives up.
It ain't the destination but the getting there. You are not lost until you run out of gas.

Any lead acid battery will lose power over time if not charged. How quickly they lose power depends on the overall capacity, temperature, and how the battery has been charged/discharged in the past. That said, AGM batteries have a very low self-discharge rate, typically about 5% per month.

I just got another Odyssey PC680 to replace my old one. The old one was from 2006 so I've had it for 14 years. Never had to place it on a trickle charger and it Wintered in my non-heated garage in Buffalo, NY. I got 14 years out of it.

Last year, starting was sluggish so over this past winter, I removed, cleaned and lubed my starter motor (thinking it might be that). It did fire up after hibernation, but just barely. I rode the Wing a few times and almost got stranded, but I got home. Upon cranking, my voltmeter showed 8 volts or so. For giggles, before actually installing the new one, it wouldn't even crank once.

Odyssey's website shows Autozone as a supplier. I ordered it from them on Sunday night and it arrived at my house on Tuesday morning. Shipping was free over $100. I found a 20% off coupon code.

List is $132.86. Autozone was $129.99. Coupon value $26.00 Tax $9.10. Bottom line $113.09. The mfg date stamp shows 04/20 so I hope it's fresh.

Since I felt I did pretty good with that original battery, I saved a bunch of paralysis by analysis time scouting for a new one. I hope this one lasts 14 years. Hell, I'll be 79 years old by then and my Wing will be 51 years old!

Having had very poor luck with cheap-o wally world batteries( come w/only a 3 month warranty BTW) in the past, I had to find a replacement quickly when my Burgman 650 died while out of town. I bought a Motobatt for it, hearing good things about AGM batteries. I was surprised it was cheaper than even the cheap lead-acid batteries at wally world at the time. I should have known better. It lasted less than a year. At least in my case, you get what you pay for. I didn't bother to see if it was old stock or even if it was under warranty. Thankfully, that machine is gone. It's time to replace my old battery in my GL1500. This time I'll do more research than buying what I can find quickly and cheaply.

Interesting, I've had very good luck with Wal*Mart batteries, and Sam's Club. I cooked a couple Wal*Mart batteries with a bad Harbor Freight trickle charger before I wised up to what was going on though.

I put a Motobatt in my GL1800 and it lasted less than a year. I thought I might could bring it back, so I put a desulphator on it for 24 hours, and then charged it with a smart charger. I had had it on my trickle charger all winter, but that seemed to cause the problems. Anyway, it came back, and that was two years ago. I now just do not touch it over the winter, and desulphate and charge it with the smart charger before bringing it out in the spring, and it seems to be the magic trick needed. I am very happy with it now. I bought it on Amazon, complained when it died, they gave me my money back, told me to dispose of it as I wished, and I am still using it. A deal like this does not come every day. I should contact Amazon and pay them again ---- NOT.

I've decided to try an AGM from Chrome Battery, since it seems like a decent battery at a low price. It has an 18 month warranty, costs under $70, arrives fully charged, and ships quickly. I'll have it in two days, which is fine. If I get two years out of it, I'll be happy. Since I'm unsure if I'll be keeping this 'Wing beyond this Fall, it seemed to be the best value for the money. It's about the same money as the Walmart ones and they only had a three month warranty.

I'm now on year three with my Motobatt, and it still starts my GL1500 like brand new.

I'm going on my 3rd year with the Mobatt battery, so far no problems, it starts the 1800 up everytime. I use the MBTX20U, one of the reasons why I chose this battery is the Ah rating, it rated at 310 CCA and 21 Ah.
