Hello,

I just purchased the shifter brace about a month ago and I am struggling to install it and are fairly new to working on my 99' Gold Wing GL 1500 SE. It will not lay flush at 90 degrees and I don't have the ability to sand it down. Can I use 1 or 2 thin washers or spacers to square it up? It did bind after my first install and I was only able to shift up, not down unless I loosened the hex bolt a the top a lot... Help please!

Hello all,

I am fairly new to working on my 99' GL1500 SE, and recently purchased the shift pivot brace from CYCLEMAX. I have attempted to install the device twice although I am unable to get the block to lay flush up against the engine guard face plate. Currently I do not have the tools to sand it down. After install the shifting does bind up a lot and I am unable to shift down hardly at all. Would it be wise to insert a thin washer/spacer between the guard base and the block to square it up?

Sorry you had a problem. Bent flats are common place. Many bikes have been dropped and require a shim. Knowing what I know now I would have designed it differently so the pivot could function freely when 90 degrees is not available. Well over 3K of these have been purchased. I don't know how many counterfeits from France and Russia were sold. I'm sure you have installed it by now.
