Hello,

I just purchased the shifter brace about a month ago and I am struggling to install it and are fairly new to working on my 99' Gold Wing GL 1500 SE. It will not lay flush at 90 degrees and I don't have the ability to sand it down. Can I use 1 or 2 thin washers or spacers to square it up? It did bind after my first install and I was only able to shift up, not down unless I loosened the hex bolt a the top a lot... Help please!

Hello all,

I am fairly new to working on my 99' GL1500 SE, and recently purchased the shift pivot brace from CYCLEMAX. I have attempted to install the device twice although I am unable to get the block to lay flush up against the engine guard face plate. Currently I do not have the tools to sand it down. After install the shifting does bind up a lot and I am unable to shift down hardly at all. Would it be wise to insert a thin washer/spacer between the guard base and the block to square it up?

Sorry you had a problem. Bent flats are common place. Many bikes have been dropped and require a shim. Knowing what I know now I would have designed it differently so the pivot could function freely when 90 degrees is not available. Well over 3K of these have been purchased. I don't know how many counterfeits from France and Russia were sold. I'm sure you have installed it by now.

Yes I have. I placed two washers in the rear about 1/3 thinner and smaller in diameter than the one the kit shipped with to true it up, and placed the washer it shipped with in front. I also employed the sand paper both grades as detailed on this forum; and it works like a charm now...

Hello,
First post!
I literally just purchased a 99 gl1500A and discovered it does have a shifter brace installed, yet no bolt... I was hoping someone could tell me what bolt I should pick up. I called Cyclemax and they do not sell the bolt without the kit (understandably). I did a parts fiche search and believe the original frame guard bolt was an 8x20? but not sure how much longer the new one should be. Also, I need to convey this all to a guy at ACE hardware :D
Thank you for all your help that you don't know you've already given me thanks to this forum! Seems all I do lately is read threads and write down what I need to fix/work on/want.

Steve
