Try the company called <wurth.com>, as they seem to have a product to suit. they may even send it to you. They are a German company, with a presence in New Jersey, as well as Australia. HTH.

I got one of these, but mine is black anodised. Hopefully, the failure is restricted to the chrome plating/aluminium reaction and mine won't be affected. I will check and monitor and report accordingly.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Scott, that was an early filter that Randakk sold. Randakk (before the takeover) found chrome was a problem. All the filters they sell now are the same as I sell on my site. They are anodised instead of chrome and I can only say in two years of selling them I have had no complaints.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
That's what I suspected, John. I got mine from you a year or so back and I haven't noticed any problem yet. I will check when I next clean it, but I don't expect to find a problem.Old Fogey wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 4:51 amScott, that was an early filter that Randakk sold. Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Wow! Thanks for the heads up! I bought this filter also based on your recommendation. I will certainly be taking a look at the filter in my bike. I also just spent a lot of time and money rebuilding my carbs as well. Yikes!

Do you suspect increased ethanol content might have had any part in contributing to the deterioration?

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
That was my first thought. However, any kind of decent chrome plating should be more than enough barrier. My suspicion is that the chrome plating is so thin or poorly applied that a slight scratch may have allowed oxygenated gasoline (i.e. ethanol) to oxidize the aluminum underneath, and once that starts, it's going to start pushing the chrome loose from underneath, just like rust bubbling under paint. That's consistent with what I saw.Fiberthree wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 6:30 pmDo you suspect increased ethanol content might have had any part in contributing to the deterioration?

Well, that does make sense.
If the newer style ones are, indeed, anodized, they should be more resistant to oxidation.

I still have one brand new in the box, Never got around to installing it. Wonder what to do with it now??? Maybe put it on a mower with a second filter after it.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
I'n trying to remember when Randall posted the problem, in his newsletter I think. Easily a minimum of 3yrs ago and probably more like 4 or 5. If you've bought in that time you should be fine. But th easiest is, if it is chrome not silver, trash it. They are not that expensive to risk having problems.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
When it comes to fuel supply,i prefer using the OEM parts for my peace of mind.....may be a bit more expensive but to me it is worth it,rather than being stuck beside the road and since we are dealing with Honda parts.......well it is always good quality....and if you have a chance to try there « combustion chamber and carb cleaner you will be surprise of its effiency......keeps your wheels on the ground......

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Well, considering that Randakk found the problem some years back and sorted it, the new owners probably have no knowledge of it at all. Although I guess they could have asked him about it. But in all reality, it's nothing to do with them now.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Haven't taken mine apart but I will.
If he knew about the issue and he sold you a "bad" filter, he should have notified you and replaced it.
Hopefully, mine is fine and there isn't an issue.
EDIT: Mine IS one of the bad ones but not as bad as was shown in the picture.
I took it apart and sanded down the loose chrome, for now.
I find it a very poor business move that when the seller learned of these issues that he did not notify the buyers and quickly offer a replacement.
I send the sellers site an email to this effect, will see what response, if any, I get.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Well, it's been over 24 hours and no response from Randakk or anyone on his site.
Based on this, it appears that they have no clue and obviously don't care.
This will be the last item I buy from him and his site.
I've spent hundreds in the past and they act like this. or don't act depending on how you look at it over a $9.99 item.
Not the way to do business.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Ok, I'll point this out once again, as you keep talking about HIM.
Randakk sold the business probably getting on for two years ago to a new operation based in Miami. Two well known dealers; Mike's XS and Z1 Enterprises joined forces, bought Randalls business and set up a new facility for all three in Florida. It is very unlikely that they even know about the problem and even more unlikely that they will take on any responsibility for something that happened years before in a business they didn't have anything to do with at the time
Sorry, but you all need to get real on this.

I know all that but they are still using his name and hence he needs to stand behind the products with his name on them.Old Fogey wrote: ↑Tue Oct 09, 2018 6:58 pmOk, I'll point this out once again, as you keep talking about HIM.

He is still out there hawking his products.
All they needed to do was say that the item was sold before they took over and they have no responsibility for it.
Instead, they just ignore everyone.
I bet he's a friend of your's and you are just sticking up for him.
Nice of you to do that for a friend but it's their job, not your's.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
I just got an ad from Randakks this morning and sent them a reply. Told them if they were not aware of this problem, to go here and see what is being said. Lets see if that does anything.

Re: Randakk's High-Performance Fuel Filter
Unfortunately, I think we are beating a dead horse.
From what has been posted here, it was a known issue long before the company was sold.
The namesake didn't notify those who had purchased the defective item and later sold it all.
I still get ads from him, used to get news-letters too but never a mention of it.

Hopefully these tiny filters under float valves do their job...
