re-finishing vinyl material

Post by SilverDave » Mon Nov 03, 2014 9:50 am

After 29 years, on my GL1200, Aspy , the top vinyl on the two passenger arm rests went from blue-black to a much lighter "grey" this summer .
I almost always cover the entire bike if its in the sun ... but there was a long sunny weekend in late August where I didn't ... Who knew ? ..

Anyway, I tried Armour-all , some black shoe polish, and some brush on polish ... all look yucky , so they will be cleaned off this weekend .

Any workable suggestions for a good looking restore of this vinyl seat fabric, back to its dark blue-black ??

I've wondered about this as well...It doesn't seem that there is a "product" for that problem.

I've heard of soaking brittle plastics in very warm/hot water for a few hours to restore pliability...makes me wonder if this would affect the surface coloring...Might be something to look into..

I know Dupli-color makes spray paint specifically for vinyl, that might be an option.

A quick Google search also came up with this: Leather Magic Vinyl Recoloring Kit
