Harley mufflers are the most popular replacement. They are cheap and new or almost new take-offs. I think I paid $20.00 for mine on ebay. Easy to adapt to the wing. The sound is a nice rumble at low rpm and considerably louder at full throttle acceleration. I have them on my 76. Do a search for Harley mufflers and you will find a number of threads regarding this.

Pre-2003 Sportster mufflers would be preferable as they do not have crossover tube holes that would need to be covered. What are you looking to do to the seat? Recover or replace? There are a lot of replacement covers on ebay or Saddlemen Seat Skins will do the trick.

If you aren't having fun doing it, find something else to do.
