intermittent radio troubles

Post by fred1diver » Mon May 07, 2018 9:38 pm

hey everyone, my radio has started acting up, let me explain, on some days the volume is loud and gives me no problem, but on other days like today the volume is really low, I checked with the mute button and it is not pressed in, what should I check? is this a common problem?

4 possibilities I can think of

The volume knob has corrosion or gunk on it's electrical rheostat
The 'auto' volume level knob has corrosion or gunk on it's electrical rheostat or the whole part of that system is not working properly
The radio connector has corrosion or gunk on the pins, this is the back of the radio and the inside of the fairing radio housing
The other might be the mute level is set too sensitive and is muting the radio (think this only applies if you are using helmet headsets), but just in case :)

Good luck

One more possibility that has tripped me up before: if the CB is turned on, but volume turned down, and it is breaking squelch, it will mute the radio with no real indication as to why it is muting.

no cb on mine, I haven't had the time to look into it, I'll get around to it this week :x
I thought I had found the problem, I changed station and the volume was as loud as before, but after today's trip I found out it was only temporary
this week I'll try to find the cause for the radio, where I'm leaking air on the rear suspension and my electrical short on my rear suspension deflate button
