Amount of brake fluid

Post by hap2 » Sun Jun 10, 2018 10:19 pm

Another question...I'm about to change my bake fluid for both front & rear. How much Dot 4 will it take?

Thanks

I can't tell you the exact amount of fluid - but I just changed/flushed my front and rear brakes. I tend to suck (using a vacuum pump) quite a bit of fluid through to make sure it runs completely clear, I refill the reservoirs several times while doing this. I started with a 1 liter bottle of fluid, and used about half of it or so I think?

I think we can say 60ml (2oz) fluid is used in one brake/clutch set. So we can say at least 240ml (to flush) plus 240ml (to change) of Dot4 is necessary.

I've done the clutch already & just bought 12 oz (354 ml) for the brakes. Do u think that's enough?

If everything goes fine, yes it will be enough.

Just changed mine and the clutch. I pulled it through with the vacuum bleeder and used the better part of a 32 oz bottle.

Clutch is done, so I shud have lots for the brakes. About how long would doing front & rear brake fluid take to change? 1/2 hr? (getting someone to do it)

Removing the front rotor covers and I removed my left saddle bag it took about 3-4 hours. I pulled a more fluid through my front brake because of the small black specks that were coming out, about 3 fills of the reservoir. Wanted it to be clean.

The excess is usually unkeepable once it is opened. Don't forget to only buy a container that will be consumed, and then put into the garbage/or similar, you should not re-use a bottle of brake fluid once it has been opened.

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.
