Re: First time posters, say hello!
first time poster - i do meet the nicest people on Honda Goldwings. Indians, Kawasakis, Suzukis, Victory Legends, Slingshots, BMWs and Can Am Spyders and selected Harley Riders - all on two wheels crowd are friendly types who appreciate fellowship with other riders.
I am 79 yrs old, ride a 2007 Honda Goldwing 1800 and am itching to test ride the 2018 Go;dwing DCT- reports are uniformly positive including some from die hard Harley riders.
How long do I plan to ride yet//// for many years as time, interest and health permits.

Re: First time posters, say hello!
Hi all. New user on the site. I have a 2005 1800 GW. Bought it brand new. I am now located in the Ozarks of North Arkansas. I previously spent 3 years in the Corpus Christi TX area. The way things worked out down there I only got to ride a few times. Then Hurricane Harvey came along. I now have a rusted, non running Goldwing that has to be fixed. Can’t afford to put it in the shop so I’ll be fixing it myself. Big problem is it won’t start. Turns over good, but won’t start. Thinking a gas problem. Haven’t been able to find my Climers GW manual yet. I said all that to say this.....How do you drain the gas out of this thing? Is there a fuel filter on it that I haven’t been able to find?

Re: First time posters, say hello!
Hello, I'm Mark and have watched your threads for some time but just joined. I have a 1993 1500A that I just replaced the engine on. Bought one on Ebay with 1/2 the miles on my original. Had a 1982 1100 before this one. I have been i love with a wing since 1986. I am having a problem that I hope someone out there can help me with. As I said I just replaced my engine and have a problem with the brake light. I have no brake light. I have checked the bulbs, switches, fuse, and relay. All are good. The real kicker is that I have had it twice where I removed and reinserted the fuse and had my brake light only to have it gone again when I turned the key off and on. I hope someone would have an insight as to something I have missed.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Hi first time poster here. Not new to forums by any means. I just picked up my first Goldwing yesterday! 1988 GL1500 with 122xxx on the ticker. She runs like a dream and everything to my knowledge works as it should. I've had many bikes through the years and this is my first big bike, wanted to get something comfortable for me and the wife. This machine fits the bill and the price was right. Picked it up for 2200 including matching trailer. I can honestly say this machine will surprise you, handles not so much like a land yacht, very nimble for it's size! just ordered timing belts, tune up stuff, fluids etc. will be going through it completely in the next couple weeks. I have already found tons of useful information on here just poking around for a few minutes! My father in law picked up a GL1800 a couple weeks ago and I fell in love with his so naturally I had to keep up with the old man and now we are here, fantastic machines they are!

Re: First time posters, say hello!
This is my turn to say Hi! Just joined and learning about my new (to me) 1983 GL1100 Aspencade. Still learning the tricks to the foot work. While it's the same one down and four up, using the heel for the up is new and having such a weak front brake at my right hand and having to use the right foot brake to get any braking power is a change. Especially when almost stopped at an intersection. No reverse gear means it's a heavy bike to back up so how you park and where you park is super important. I also find that especially when getting on and off when it's on the side stand I really end up bumping my right shin on the right board and engine guard. I bought it to have a more comfortable ride over distances with my wife. She likes that part a lot compared to being behind me on my KLR650. Only I can post pictures I'll add one of my 'Wing.

I never liked the heel-toe shifter on my 82 GL1100 - I always meant to replace it and put it back to stock, but never got to it.blueklr wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 8:01 amThis is my turn to say Hi! As for the front brake, it should be very strong. The old rubber brake lines swell over time and make them weak and spongy. I did a complete overhaul on my GL1100 - I replaced the brake pads, rebuilt the caliper and master cylinder, and here's the important part: I replaced all the brake lines with braided stainless steel brake lines. This made a TREMENDOUS difference, and gave my GL1100 razor sharp, powerful brakes. It was the single best upgrade I did to my GL1100.

Hi everyone. First Honda for me! I just bought a new Goldwing DCT! I absolutely love it and plan to take a couple thou mile trip soon!
I am from Minnesota. Very Impressed so far!
I have had many different bikes, all big power and none for distance. Although I've racked up some serious miles on a Turbo'd Hayabusa haha! 80K down both coasts and everywhere between!
This is going to be different for me, but looking forward to riding it distance!

I am way down on the tip of Africa and recently bought two Goldwings, much to my families surprise, having been a Suzuki guy for 35 years...
I still have a few Suzuki’s but got fancinated by the Goldwing motor so going to see where this goes

Hello all!!
I will try to keep this simple and short....
My name is Matt. Today I acquired my first Goldwing. It is a 1986 GL1200I Interstate. It is currently not running. However, time, patients, research, and money will fix that.
I look forward to getting to know this machine and all of you.

My name is Jeremy. I live in Northwest Kansas. Today I just got my first Gold Wing titled in my name. It a 1982 GL1100 Aspencade. I only paid $100 for it so you know it's going to be a project. It was last tagged in 2009. I'm going to be rebuilding the brake calipers, masters, carbs (the throttle shaft doesn't move), I'll put new tires on it since I'm assuming that they're probably 12-15 years old. While I'm doing brakes and tires, I figure that I'll just put in new wheel bearings, since I'm into it that far. Forks need to be resealed, seat needs to be recovered, etc. There's probably more that I'll find while I'm there. I do as much of my own work as possible 1) to save money and 2) because I enjoy it. I have a fair amount of experience with dirt bikes and ATV's, but this is a complicated engine (to me) so I'm sure that I'll have a lot of questions. I'm planning for this to be a fall and wintertime project and hope to be riding it sometime this spring.

new here, read the whole diy section yesterday! with the comments
just got an 88 gl1500 se.
the first big bike i own, my other half is a klr650 that's waiting on a return spring for the clutch.
i went to get this guy, the gl, had been stored for years, and the petcock was leaking! but the bike ran.
the dude who let it go, good ol ron, it belonged to his fallen friend, passed away from cancer, he kept the bike to have the occasional drink with it. had 65k on it and was babied and maintained until the last few years
he was moving away, and had to let go of few things!
he's happy the bike found me!
we tore into the bike in his driveway... until it was ok to ride it home. 1 hour trip!
once i got here, i bypassed the petcock with a shutoff valve! is this any safe as a setup? the brass is from home depot and now it leaks no more. check attached images
while i went to the shop to the get the parts, i had the halfway disconnected fuel filter hanging in the air, attached to the antenna. i noticed that it leaks/siphons, unless you undo the gas cap, then the pressure is relieved and no more leaking.
makes me kind of deduce that opening the gas cap could be used as a temp shutoff valve. no?
should i plug the vacuum hose?
ill be going all over this forum again and again, to learn what to dig into and what to leave for later, so feel free to point me in any direction you see fit.

Welcome to the site!
I like your "temporary" petcock.... Clearly you will want to fix the stock one though, parts are available... No, the gas cap is not a good shutoff, if more than half tank of fuel it will gravity-feed into the carburetors even with the cap off.
Are there maintenance records? Clearly you will want to change all the fluids, and if no records on the timing belts I'd make that a priority....
Nice looking bike, by the way!

Hello Denver winger.
i am a noob with no opinions of my own!
i research and read comments and follow who i determine to be the wise.
i have some service record, and I know the guy who rode it loved it. he owned another just for parts. which i should have access to!
the records dont say much. I am looking at maintaining the drive shaft while doing rear tires. the brakes are great. just needed bleeding.
while doind the front tire, ill change the belts and the tensioner, change the coolant and replace spark plugs. I am still doing my research. great articles here.
My main issue now is a lag and instability in acceleration. nothing major. i feel its the carb. the jet. Ill find a better place to post about that

Hi all, I just joined this site today.

I hope to get a lot of information about my 2013 HONDA Gold Wing Level 3 (blue/silver).
And I hope I can give as much information as I can (if I can). And so far, that's very little because this is my first ever HONDA motorcycle. I graduated from KAWASAKI 2 wheels of over 20 years. And now, going on for over 4 years I've been the owner of this 2013 HONDA Gold Wing Level 3.
So again, Hi all and hope we can be friends and learn from each other.
Thanks for opening the addressed cyber way.

Well I missed this post yesterday when I attempted to introduce myself to the group. My current bike is a 2002 Honda Magna, but I'm shopping for a Goldwing. Well shopping isn't the correct term, I have a deal worked out with a friend to buy his 1996 GL1500SE; they upgraded to a 2010 last year. We are shooting for a test ride on in a couple of weeks to see how comfortable my wife feels sitting on the rear seat and how comfortable I feel on bike that is twice the size of mine. I'm not a very mechanical guy, but do enjoy learning how to fix my Magna, and looking forward to learning how to work on my future Goldwing.
When I'm not working, the wife and I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether it's riding, camping, or sitting around our fire pit. I make up for my lack of mechanical skills by being very adept in the kitchen and the grills.
My Magna down in Louisiana (Beaver Dam Campground) while visiting our oldest son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter. Some of my grilling area. I have 2 Barrel Charcoal Grills, 1 offset horizontal smoker, 1 vertical smoker, 1 50/50 propane/charcoal grill, and 1 Smokey Joe. Our 25 ft. by 25 ft. fire pit entertainment area Of course my wife needs her wine bar

I have a 1994 aspencade california side car trike. I love it!!!!! My wife says I love my bike more than her!!! That’s another story. I have 120+ thousand miles and still going strong!!! The only issue I’ve had is front tire wear. I guess that’s a common issue.
