electronic speedo

Post by steppin stone » Mon Jul 02, 2018 4:51 pm

Hello when I first purchased my 1986 gwing 1200 aspencade my speedo was operational now it's staying at zero. The question I have is would it be a gear in the axle or the sensor gone? If it's the sensor is there away to test it ?

the most common problem is the drive in the gear box. undo the screw holding the sensor on the gearbox and you will see a small blade drive sticking out of the gearbox. if you spin the front wheel, this should rotate if it doesnt the gearbox is the culprit.

there is a way of testing the sensor, but a manual would be the best to get it right.

Well I guess I was lucky that it's not the sensor I think? cause I took the sensor off and spun the wheel and nothing moved. I have new front fork seals coming in on friday so I am going to wait till then. I will take the hub apart then and see if it's the gear while I work on the fork seal. If it is the gear I found a replacement on line it might take a week or so to come in but I can still get one (fingers crossed).

If it is the gear, don't go buying another 30 year old used one and put it in there. You can get a brand new, 3D printed one: viewtopic.php?t=30864&p=179065

Thanks for the diagram I am hoping the sensor is still good. I jacked the front end up and took the sensor off and spun the wheel and the spear sticking out didn't move. So till I take the wheel off in the morning I will not know if it's the gear or not. (KEEPING FINGER CROSSED).

Well I was able to get wheel off today and found that the (2) ears on the gear were broken off . So I am going to order the new gear hopefully it will work we'll see .

I was able to purchase one from shapway's took about a week to deliver it . It was delivered to day and I installed it within an hour and so for every thing is working. I had to use my dremil on it with a sanding disc cause it was a little snug on the shaft just sanded it little. I will be going for a cruise tomorrow and see if it still work's finger's crossed.
