Trip coming up

Post by echinus1988 » Sun Jul 08, 2018 4:01 am

In September my son and I will be leaving for New York from Colorado. Not the optimum time probably but the kids will be back in school and we should have less traffic and a great trip. Have we planned it? Nope, after the first night, we don't really care where we stop each day. First night will be in Ashland NE and stay at the Eugene Mahoney State Park and buy the discounted tickets for the SAC museum next door. After that, it's where we want to stop.

We will be stopping in Dayton for the USAF Museum, Washington DC for the Smithsonian Air Museum(s), and other air museums we find.

Oh, we'll also be stopping at my brother's house and his mom's house. Can't forget those!

Should be a good 4,000 mile trip and will be made better since we are doing it together.

Next year, we'll do our own trips and then another together trip in 2020 (is it really almost here?).

Actually September is the optimal time for motorcycle travel. Most of the summer storms (ie: Tornados) have calmed down, the bugs are gone, the heat is not oppressive, and as you mentioned, the children are back in school, so the parents are not hauling them to summer activities, so the roads are safer. They even moved Wing Ding to September for these very reasons I am sure. This year it is in Knoxville, TN, so maybe if you watch carefully, you could hit it as you go by and get all the bling and accessories your heart desires for the bikes.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

My wife and I (plus other riders) will be leaving Nova Soctia on the 29th Aug for our return leg (to Keremeos BC) of our cross Canada (Victoria BC to St Johns Nfld) Military Police National Motorcycle relay ride. We will cross into Maine and wonder through the NE states re entering Canada at Niagara Falls. Putts around following the Lake(s) shore to Sault Ste Marie then back into the US and home along #5 and #2 Hwys. We will wave... take good care and enjoy your holiday!

I had to check and see when the Wingding was going. Unfortunately it finishes about a week before we leave so we won't be able to stop by and see it.

My son just bought a trailer for his Yamaga. One of the Uni-Go trailers. One wheel and he likes that. Not very wide but deep and can store quite a bit. 2006 model and got a pretty good price for it. We'll still take my Bunkhouse Trailer though for the trip.

Good for you - great cause. Just finished the Island ride in memory of Joe Lescene last weekend. Met quite a few of the riders going across Canada, good group you are riding with. Going to the meet and greet on 28th here in Victoria. The charity this ride sponsors is fantastic, the Blind Children Fund, and 100% of the funds raised go to the kids. Have a fantastic ride - enjoy.

Here's another fellow on the ride with you - Sparkles:

Owner is Kyle, rides a '94 1500.

Cheers

Ernest.. Thanks, the Wife and I are looking forward to a great ride with great company. We rode to Winnipeg with the group last year and made the decision to go across Canada based upon that experience. I know Kyle and Sprinkles and Sandra and will be camping with them along the way. Spent some time this morning packing our Bunkhouse MC travel trailer, filling all the spaces with stuff. Our 1500 trike will manage this trip with ease. Hope to meet up at the meet and great..
